I would suggest NOT just putting it in your bucket. It is theoretically possible that the saw could bounce out and get run over by the tractor. Theoretically....

I drive over rough land. I've bent a new bar holding the saw by the bar such as Stewie's setup. I imagain on smooth land though, it works well.

Yes it can and does happen I bounced a O45AV Stihl out of my truck while backing out of a rough area and ran over it. I felt rather foolish and poor after the repair parts bill.

I put a sleeve on the side of my weight box for the saw, gas, oil & tools in the top of the box.

Were you using a Kolpin Press like his when you bent the bar? The reason I ask is because the power head rests on a padded support plate so it is hard to understand what forces would cause the bending.

I was afraid of bending my bar due to the ground I usually operate on so I created this setup. While its not pretty it secures the saw and I don't worry about bending the bar.

What whacked the saw head to bend the bar? I have the Kolpin bracket on my ATV and a homemade slip bracket in the carryall of the tractor if the bar bends from the weight of the saw head bouncing around under any conditions I'm thinking that the saw head is way too heavy  I too have some pretty rough land (livestock has to graze in pairs so one can lift the rock while the other feeds) and I don't worry about the saw bracket after having it that way for about eight years -- JMHO

No. Just a homemade holster that held just the bar. If the device supports the powerhead also, there shouldn't be a problem.

Here's mine all from scrap... The plastic bar cover was part of a case that the local hardware store lost so they gave me the other half for free. The bottom of the bar cover was cut out to avoid water /debris accumulation. The assembly mounts with a single 5/16" bolt and "clamps" around the splash guard 1" steel pipe on the tractor.

Carrying the chainsaw is sometimes my WIFE's job!

Seriously, if I'm going out on the place where I need a chainsaw, I take it in the pickup, or now the Gator. If I need the chainsaw AND the tractor there at the same time, my wife brings along the chainsaw and other such stuff. Sometimes I will set the chainsaw in the front end loader and carry it where I need it at the same time I need the front end loader.

This is the one I just did. works pretty well. The bottom of the scabbard is wearing pretty quick so I will need to put something in the bottom of the holder so the chain doesn't rub against metal.

I carry mine in this handy attachment. It's been painted to match the machine color, and is also easily removed and attached to the tractor with a "Quick Attach" system. It is large enough to fit 2 chainsaws, a fuel jug, a couple containers of bar & chain oil, my safety gear that I wear when using the saw, rope, come-a-long, racheting straps, and a cooler for non-alcoholic drinks.

Pics are when it was shiny new.

:D

It works great to haul the saw until one forgets the saw is in the bucket. Ask me how I know:)

I finally got around to painting my carry all and took some pictures. I've been using it all summer and it works well. Surprisingly strong - I stood on it as a test. One downside is it obstructs the rear view some.

That looks awesome, and no more having to look under the seat for the toolbox!

Now that's an innovative way to hook it onto the ROPS!

Did you use any hardware at all to attach it, or is it just wedged and "gravitized" into place?

No hardware to attach. The crossbar that held the toolbox keeps it from sliding down, but the lever action against the rops serves to carry the weight. It lifts right off when its empty.

That's what I thought, but I had to ask for sure.

That's one of the things what I like best about it- no futzing with bolts, straps, or other stuff, just get it on and go.

When you need it off for some reason, unload and go. :cool2:

Thanks,
Thomas :drink:
