After searching used trailers for over 2 months, I finally decided to buy new and brought it home today. 24 foot +5 foot dovetail, 22,500 pound dual tandem Top Hat trailer. It has so many neat features, I am still finding something extra. I upgraded from my 20 foot, 14,000 pound trailer because with a grapple and loader bucket, I was out of room and overweight. Don't know if I will sale the 20 footer. I might keep it for a "lite weight" trailer.

Brandi,
Nice rig. Proud for you. (and a little jealous) :D
I really need to do the same thing. It doesn't happen often, but if I need to move my JD tractor and baler, it won't fit on my trailer. Even if it did, it would be grossly overloaded and probably just blow out tires.
Actually, the JD, with the FEL, weighs about 10,000 by itself. So, my 20' + 5' single tandem is pretty much maxed out on weight with just that tractor.

BTW, keep the smaller trailer. It will come in handy. If you sell it, you'll probably regret it.
Don't know about your side of the river, but over here, we can get a "permanent" trailer plate for $70. So, even when I buy a bigger trailer, I'll still keep my old one. It cost me nothing to hang onto it.

Must be a girl thing. - You just had to have it cause the colors matched.

OK so I'm jealous.

Congratulations, Way to go Girl.

Nope, not just a girl thing. A local man had his new trailer custom painted a distinct shade of green. :D

Thanks Guys! Red is one of my favorite colors. My son says it a girl thing. He asked me once why I wear Red boots.

Bigfoot62,
I understand about tires being overloaded. When I first put my Mahindra 6520 and backhoe on my 20 foot trailer, I realized the tire ratings were not enough to carry what the trailer was rated for. When I retire to the Texas Hill country, I want to bale hay..........and knew I would need a longer trailer. You can say I am getting ducks in a row for retirement.
hugs, Brandi

Yep, you're much safer with the dual tandem. It will take a little more fuel to pull it. 4 more tires and several hundred (maybe 1000 or more) pounds of steel to drag around. But it's worth it. You shouldn't have to worry about blowing a tire now.

Another advantage to the longer trailer is that you can better balance the load. Basically, you want about 15% of the loaded weight of the trailer on the hitch. With the longer trailer, you can move the tractor back until you get it just right. The short trailer makes you put too much weight on the hitch, and that makes it ride rough and pull hard.

You did the right thing. (I just need to bite the bullet and do the same)

BTW, if you keep that single tandem, they do make a Load Range G, 14 ply rating tire now. (7.50R16) I have some on my 5th wheel. They are WanLi brand. There are probably other brands, but that's what the local tire shop sells. The next set I buy for my gooseneck will be 14pr as well.

Brandi, nice trailer...quick question....I guess you already have a CDL? Up here 26K GVW requires one...I'm pretty sure that trailer and your truck would be way over that? BobG in VA

Bob,
No CDL needed with farm tags. I will need to get a Class A regular license (I have class C now) as the trailer grooses over 20,000 lbs. Class C is okay up to 20,000lbs. Eventually I will get the CDL.

Bigfoot62,
14 ply tires is what is on the single tandem now. Each tire is rated to hold 3500 lbs at (I think) 80 psi.
