Thinking about a new Gooseneck trailer

Its abut the hitch point.

With a GN, the hitch is FORWARD of the rear axle. So the VERY MOMENT you start turning into a driveway....the Trailer starts heading the same direction.

With a BP, the hitch is several feet behind the rear axle. So you start a turn into a driveway....the trailer actually goes the opposite direction for a moment if you turn real sharp....and tracks much closer.

Good explanation.

Nothing to confirm other than to yourself.

BP tracks truck better than a GN. Its about where the hitch is (which is what the trailer follows/pivots around). And on a GN it is slightly FORWARD of the axle. On a BP it is BEHIND.

PS....this is also why a BP trailer reacts much faster to steering input;)

Another good one.

I talked to my neighbor across the road. He has a 32' GN and he didn't think I would have a problem. I can always put in a new culvert on my actual right of way if I have to and quit using my brothers drive.

I ordered a Gator Made trailer yesterday. I got a 25+5 with 7k axles. I went ahead and got the optional 14 ply tires for $625 extra (5 tires). I came close to getting the 8k axles with 17.5 inch tires, but it was another $1500. I am pulling with a 2500 so I should be good. I did get the “Elite” model that has a spare, hydraulic jacks, LED light bar and a sliding ratchet rail.

That should be a fine trailer. Hydraulic jacks, yummy! Just a thought, but if you trade in the $625 up grade tires for the 8k axles that would drop the $1500 down a bunch. Plus you get 12.25"x3.3" brakes v/s 12"x2".

Agree. Along with bigger brakes and a tougher tire, 17.5 wheels also have thicker wheel studs.

Good points following your post but that sounds super nice. The rails I've never experienced but figured it looked useful. Light is always a bonus.

My numbers were off just a little. Trailer with elite package was $10195. 14 ply tires are $125 each (5). Trailer with 8k axles and 17.5 wheels is $11995
The sliding ratchet rail was part of the package. I don’t know if I will have a use for it.
If my pocket was full I would have definitely went for the 8k axles and added some of the tool boxes that mount under the trailer. But I already spent more than I had planned going for the elite package.
The trailer is supposed to have a winch plate but the pictures don’t show it well. Hope to modify it to take my receiver mount winch.

As an earlier poster mentioned I bought a 25+5 Gatormade workhorse trailer with 2-10k axles and 17.5 super singles and I haven't had a single issue with it, if there is a down side it's probably overbuilt , for 1 example the 2 main frame I-beams are 14" I-beam verses a lot of trailers use 12" so it's a heavy trailer before you ever put anything on it and if you get put on scales every pound counts, but it is extremely well built and I would buy another one, I think you will be pleased.

Got my trailer yesterday. Had to load the tractor to see how it fit.

Beauty. That hill is nice to have. Even though you have good ramps that just makes loading sweeter.

Sharp truck too. I have a 2019.

Beautiful trailer! Other than that hideous "gator" text logo. Is that painted on, or vinyl/sticker?

Didn't think about the hill. That is just where I backed the trailer when I got home last night. I like the truck too, its a 2018 and I already have 47k on it.

Nice!!! Can you repost specs!!!
It's a 25+5 with 7k axles, but rated at 16k. I upgraded to the 14 ply tires. Elite package was $1500 and added the spare tire, light bar on top of the neck, a rail to add the ratchet straps like a semi trailer, hydraulic jacks, and a DOT kit that is a fire extinguisher and some fold up reflective triangles.
640 mile round trip yesterday to get it. I need to put it on a the scale at work and see what it weighs.
I got 21.2 mpg on my way to get it, and 15.5 on the way home. Lots of hills in TN and KY

It is a sticker I believe. I love the step on the front of the trailer, not only does it help to get on the trailer, but also to get in the back of the truck.
