Chicken Tractor or Chicken Tank?

The BIG dog house believe it or not has a solid welded angle iron frame... I was considering making it a small chik'n shak up in the pasture area away from the house. some of our chickens are past laying age... Think of it as a retirement home, all the bugs you can eat, all day long.

Retirement home for chickens? I thought that was called a pot.....:laughing::laughing:
... with dumplings in it!

I live with 4 beautiful women. Kind hearted, sweet, and very loving women.

Three of them are only 3, 11, and 13 years old...

So they love their chickens, and this is our first flock so they are ALL like pets.

They also like me pretty well (most days).

Now they were just fine with me shooting the mean old rooster...
Which I take as a warning not to be like the mean old rooster... If you know what I mean...

I suspect some day they will be OK with some of the birds are for eating (but never the ducks... OMG they are all insanely in love with ducks...).

Besides, if you spend ANY time in a horse pasture, it NEEDS it's own flock of birds, and our pasture is too far from the house (unfortunate geography and prior owner's choice of house location). So any flock up there needs to be somewhat expendable...

It will all work out in the end, somehow...

Be well,

David

Wow. I thought I was spoiling the chickens with a Chicken Tank and chicken trails....

But David has his chickens in a proper house, with windows, wall cabinets, and a table....

:D:D:D

When are you going to hang a chandelier for them?

Will you use candles, electric power, or the oh so nice gas?

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

When you say the "Chik'n Shak" the B52's Love Shack song starts in my head.... :D

Don't laugh.

Back in the late '60's my Dad decided to raise pigeons, chickens, ducks, guinea fowl AND peacocks. This in Essex Center, VT on the edge of suburbia. He built a 40' x 20' 1 story structure framed, sided, roofed and rough finished in the interior. With glass windows, worktables, cabinets. But he didn't wire it at first.
He called it his "birdhouse".
Slightly after that (1 or 2 years) he built a birdhouse for Purple Martins, buying stuff at the local lumber yard.
He got some strange comments when he decided to wire his "birdhouse" when he went back to the lumber yard and asked for 150' of 10 gauge BX.
Apparently they thought he was wiring the Purple Martin house.
He got some mighty strange

I woke up last night at 0230 and went out side to mark my territory. :D Country Life is really liv'n!:laughing:

As I was marking, I heard a large group of Coyotes to the SW. Another couple to the west and another one or two to the east! They were having a party!

Glad I built the Chicken Tank the way I built the Chicken Tank. :D The chickens were sleeping. I checked.

Dan,

I love you man. Beers are on me when we first meet....

I've taken to marking my territory more often myself, not typically at 0230 though... but I do go check on the chix, and my chicks as well...

Ya gots to check your perimeter from time to time. :D:D:D

I check both sets of chicks as well. ;)

Besides marking territory is the Green Thing to do. Saves well water and the power to pump same.:laughing::laughing: I am saving the earth. :D:D:D

Though the wife about killed me when she caught me "watering" the roses. Never saw her move that fast before. :D

Dan,

You should have told her you were merely protecting her roses from those male Yotes and Foxes who were in trouble with their mates and were looking to score some cheap roses so they could get back in the den...

:D

I could not remember if I shared my "Chicken Tractor" or not. Tractor mobile... I built it on a 4x4 pallet so I could move it with carryall. Has been working well. Though it is not pretty.

I think it is lovely! Much nicer than mine!

Pic of the chicken yard from last year. The blue covered buildings are low rent chicken housing. I made this yard 100'x100' way to big. This year 14x50. The five gallon bucket on the right holds dead rabbits, and is my maggot bucket. Works great just put a lot of holes in it. All the chickens in this picture are now resting comfortably in the freezer:licking:
