We've been busy ... we had 1/2 mile of perimeter fence to place and a half mile of cross fencing.

2 and 7/8 oil stem for the corners set at 42" deep and 10' of 2 and 3/8 oil stem for the brace ... that made the "H" braces for all the corners ... t-post every 12' ... the 3 of us have 3 days in from 7 a.m. till about 6 p.m ... took a break today from it and got about 600' left to pull tommorrow.

All total we have set 18 H-braces for all the corners and 3 gates ... and right at 425 t-post ... all the rain has made the t-post push in with the FEL

Just out of curiosity, wouldnt wood posts have been cheaper. "T: posts are like 7 bucks plus up here, you can buy treated 4-5"x6' for 3.50. Just thought i would ask.

Put up many miles like that thirty years ago. Now taking it all down since the animals are gone and the trees are being logged. FYI - takes about half the time to take them down as put them up.

$3.89 for the 6' t-post and easy to push in with the FEL

Not too many here have any inkling of how much work that really is. Nice job!

Thanks and it is alot of work ... the ground is so moist the 2 and 7/8 push right in and the t-post as well ... good bottom ground with no rocks.

I have a wire unroller that hooks to the forks on the FEL and unrolls 2 at a time ... also have a push pipe for the t-post.

Man if I could count the miles of fencing I have done ... wrecking a line if there are not alot of trees goes pretty good. Around here when I get the old fences with the bois de arc for post I just lower the loader bucket and clear the line ... once you get it rolling the loader can get it out pretty well ... I don't worry about saving real old wire.

This will be the last for a few years ... all my other fences are in good shape.

Blueriver.

Beautiful land and great job on the fence. Hard work, but fulfilling.

I owned 80 acres in Arcadia until 2006 when I sold it to a great guy, Dr Christopher Barry. OK is beautiful and you are Blessed to live there as I am sure you know.

Good work,

Jim

Jim,
I do love living in Oklahoma .... that 80 acres probably fetched a good price. Market was pretty good in 2006

What I like about fencing is as you go ... the results seem to appear before you eye's ... we've done alot of fence over the years so between the 3 of us we have a rythym and sure enough get some fencing done.

Do you have a pic of the push pipe? Is it a homemade tool or store bought? I've always used the manual post driver but using my fel would be so much easier.

I can get a picture but its a simple 2 and 3/8 inch pipe 60" long with a 3/8"
4"x4" plate on the top ... I slide it onto the post and the plate sets against the loader and I push ... I only use it it tough ground so the post won't bend.

If you need I'll post a picture.

Great lookin' job, Blueriver!!!

I thought I put up a lot of barbwire!!!:D... I also have a lot of electric fence to take care of, and sometimes it can be a pain because the deer run through it.

I set a lot of T-posts, and I hate it because the soil is hard packed clay!... When I set T-posts, I have to use a long handle sledge hammer!

I can get a picture but its a simple 2 and 3/8 inch pipe 60" long with a 3/8"
4"x4" plate on the top ... I slide it onto the post and the plate sets against the loader and I push ... I only use it it tough ground so the post won't bend.

I would like to see a picture if you have one! :)

Thanks for sharing your hard work!!! :D

Blueriver,

Ah that brings back memories.... now all I do is maintian fences. Sometimes I think it would be eaiser to just start over. Southeastern Oklahoma is beautiful to me. I still call it home. Western Arkansas is also beutiful and I always called it my backyard. Northeast Texas is nice and is where I reside now. I love the early growing seasons. But hate the fireants! I too, would like to see a picture of your post driver that you use with the bucket of your tractor.

Regards,

Bart

Why 5 strand? Around here we only do 5 strand on BLM which requires it.
