Galen, does that mean an upgraded loader that would not require reinforcement prior to using? BTW, I do not see that new model 7060 you mention on the Mahindra website?

What loader are you talking about? The units that are on the smaller 15-16 series tractors?

I was refering to the loaders that come with the 5530 & 6530, and I believe there were other models as well. Have been reading threads in the forums here regarding how the tops are easily bent and should be reinforced prior to use.

May I ask where and what threads? I am on here all the time and the only time that I remember seeing any complaint was with a unit that was clearly abused and the guy saying all this bad stuff was a dealer for some other brand of tractor. Again the pictures that had been posted clearly showed that the tractor had been thoroughly abused.

OK, found one of them "Looking at a 8560" post#24, then a beautiful job (IMO) done on the bucket (pics) post #27. There have been a number of mentions regarding these buckets on other threads. I won't spend much time trying to find them, but when I come across them I'll add the info here.

On my little old JD, I've had to have the cutting edge welded back to the bucket after separating, so it's no big deal to me. Just something I will keep in mind if I go with Mahindra. Still leaning in that direction, as they seem to offer the most bang for the buck.

Rob, those are bucket modifications done on my buckets for my 7520 and my 3215. Yes very common for bucket modifications to be done on ALL makes and models of tractors. When you said loader modifications I took that as the actual loader arms, not the bucket. The bucket top lips get stiffened up so that chain hooks can be used without bending up the top lip of the bucket. Sides get beefed up so that those areas do not have to be worried about although most people only do the top. I happen to have 2 buckets for my 7520 and made one of them into my digging bucket with all the add on stiffeners and welded on teeth holders for the teeth. That is not a tooth bar. My std bucket has no added stiffeners and is used to move loose material as was intended and has no damage after 6 years. Something to remember is that NONE of these loaders on any of these SCUTS, COMPACT or UTILITY tractors was ever intended to be used as a digging machine. ALL factory pictures show these tractors moving loose material, never digging in hard or even soft virgin soil. Aftermarket companies are the ones to build these items to make them dig better. Some of the manufacturers do have heavy duty buckets available, but even they need to have the tops reinforced before installing chain hooks if you don't want to bend up the top lip.

Good luck with your search, pretty much all the tractors these days are good machines, you just need to fine the machine and dealer that fit YOU the best.

If thinking about baling hay, need to go with more pto hp, I havent baled hay with my 5500 yet, I did find a old New Holland 845 hay baler, chain type, it requires I think 45 pto hp, which I have 44 or 46 pto hp I think. Thats the only round baler I seen so far that requires that less of pto hp for a 4 X 4 1/2 round bale, not 100% sure about that bale size. I think JD might have some small round balers that require 40 - 45 pto hp.

Thanks to some of you, I have begun inching up on HP (and cost) to consider at least a 6530 or greater tractor. Could probably get by with the 5530. Life would be easier with more, especially since I would like to add a root grapple after seeing others. Speaking of this, a root grapple is well suited for basic grabbing and moving piles of limbs & scrap, yes? A tornado earlier this year left me with LOTS of limbs (still) laying around the farm in need of moving. Would like to add them to the huge stump piles prior to burning.

Have plenty of logs to bring up for splitting, too. Need some kind of splitter, too, as declining health no longer permits me to do it the frontier way...sigh! Might go for a portable model I can hall with the old 6x6 polaris.

Have plenty of boxblade work initially to ready that future pasture and re-establish areas aroudn the farm for proper drainage. The #1 (long term) task will remain simple hay moving out to the horse pastures, which any tracter can handle. Of course one must justify a larger tractor by finding things to do with it, which I don't think would be to difficult.

Been comparing the 6530 and other Mahindras with JD5065E & greater, NH T4000/4020 4wd. The one thing I would really like to have is a clutchless power shuttle. It costs more so in ballance, one might expect less tractor in the same price range. Tuff call. :confused2:

To get a power shuttle in a Mahindra you will have to go with the 35 series tractor and even though the 5035 is a very nice machine, it is not the size of the 30 series and not even close to the 60 series machines. You may have to go with one of the other brands if a power shuttle is high on the list unless of course the 5035 is actually big enough for you. :confused3:

Root grapples work great for moving trees and other stuff around.

Brian, that grapple pic depicts exactly the kind of stuff I have to pick up and move.:thumbsup: What tractor & grapple is that in your photo? Nice!

BTW, there is a part of me that is thinking: "buy a used bobcat to finish the clean up and a basic tractor to maintain farm". Added together, those would undoubtedly cost more than just buying an upgraded tractor.
