Verify compression of 120psi or better and use new plug

If you've already tried that, then how long has it been since it was used? Was it stored with fuel in it, or did you run it dry before storage? The ethanol blended fuel we are getting now is JUNK! I've bought more spark plugs this year than the last 10 years combined.
Also had to replace the priming bulb on a Stihl trimmer, and the fuel line on one of my saws.

I had to rebuild 3 carburetors in the past month due to storage with that **** ethanol fuel. From now on i only buy premium ethanol free fuel for my small engines, plus use blue marine grade fuel additive. I'm sick of this junk ruining my equipment. Our government SUCKS sometimes.

I am in the repair business and have NEVER seen this many bad carburetors in one summer! This corn goo has got to go, while it is good for my business, the downtime for guys trying to make a living with their small equipment is definitely taking it's toll.

probably the carburetor needs cleaning

You say it wont start on ether??

Try pulling the plug ad dumping about 1/2 of a soda cap full directly in there, if still no fire, it is probabally compression.

Saws wear out. If compression is not 120 or better it is time for a rebuild. And if it is below 100, it wont even fire with gas dumped straight in

I had a similar problem with my Stihl MS170. Turns out that the fuel line to the fuel pickup in the tank was split in a nearly impossible to notice spot. Less than $5 for a new line and I was back in business.

I don't know what size saw you are trying to start but if it has a compression release, Try starting it without releasing compression. None of my Stihl saws like the compression release. Take out the plug and mix a little WD40 with gas and dribble a little bit in the cyllinder. Quickly replace the plug and it has to fire at least for a second or two. If not, The gas just ran down past your rings and you need a rebuild..

I fixed my Dad's saw a while back. He hardly ever uses it. So I go to bring it home, and he saws how it ran fine when he used it not too long ago.... Kinda like the car and tractor ad's "ran when parked"!

So, I get it home. Fill it up with fresh premium Husky mix and Premium gas. It will not even try to start; this saw always started in a couple pulls. Great spark... Put a bit of gas in the cylinder and it fires immediately, for a second.

While I'm doing this, I hear something rattle, so I shake the saw. Sounds like something in the gas tank! I drain it in to a coffee can, and plunk out comes the fuel filter with a piece of rotted hose! The hose was just mush!

Fortunately, there are three dealers withing a few minutes of here. Got a new hose and filter, put it on, and three pulls later running like a champ.

That was on an older Stihl 024AV. I have had to replace hoses on a Husky brush cutter and Husky backpack blower too. Sucky gas...

FWIW, that is one of my all time favorite saws. The Stihl 024/0260/260 series is a great, well balanced saw.
