Hello
I am about to purchase a new RTV900. The local dealer has given me a fair price for it but there will be none available until the end of March. If I want Camo that won't be available until May.
He has an orange 900 on the lot that Kubota sent to to the Royal Winter Fair In November. It has 90 hours on it and it looks new. It would be sold as new, has had all the fluids changed and a full service. I can save $2000 on that one, what do you guys think?:confused2:
Thanks in advance

I would think it all depends on if you really desire the 2011 "new" items or $2000. I hear the new ones have some better seats and back rest and a couple of other things that may make them better operationally and for comfort. I guess it also depends if you are willing to wait a couple months. I just bought a 2006 with 65 hours on it for $8750 and thought it was a good deal. How much is the difference in the two and what options has it go on it. Those can really add to the price quickly, canopy top, glass windshield, winch, bumpers, grill guard , spray in bed liner etc all add up quick. You may get some of those items thrown in for free or at dealer cost if you take the used one.

It has a bed liner and brush guard. I don't really want to wait, I could be using it right now. I would want to add a winch and maybe a canopy, not much else right now.

sounds like you made up your mind.See if the dealer will no charge those items into your deal now.Make sure he knows if you buy new there are other dealers out there that would love your bussiness. Enjoy whichever way you go

I will look for a few extras. The box liner and brush guard are in the deal. My son purchased a 3500 lb winch at princess auto in anticipation of the "new toy" I think I will need a mount for that as well.

You can make just about anything if you have the time, patience, ability and material. Many of us dont have one or more of those things and if is easier, faster and many times cheaper to buy it already installed than to go around scavenging up the materials to built it and then spending our valuable off work time to fab, paint and install. Besides if you built a brush guard out of angle iron it wouldnt have the cool RTV logo in front or the smooth bends of the light protector bars.

Why not? If I make my own it will most likely be out of round tubing and everything will be smooth.....I have access to a full machine shop so a cool RTV logo would be very doable. :D

The one I am considering has the brush guard and liner. Only thing I will need is a mount for the winch and maybe a top. Do most of you have a top? Also, do I need the Kubota mount for the winch?

I was posting in reply to Traskblacktail who said he would make one out of angle iron which would surely protect the grill if designed properly but wouldnt look like the Kubota standard. No doubt some folks have access to all kinds of tool, benders, free metal and such. For me, I have a welding machine, grinder, drill, vise, anvil and cutting torch which is the extent of my metal fabrication tools and even with those there isnt much I can build since I have not material to build it with and not much time either at the present. I am gone for 8 weeks at a time and then back for 3 weeks which is consumed with doctor visits, work than has piled up for the last 8 weeks and of course visiting with wife and family so not much time to run around looking for stuff to build. Alas, my retirement date will be here in less than a year and if I havent bought everything already, I may actually built something. Right now I have contracted out to build a 7 foot bush hog made of of solid 1/4" plate that I hope will stand up to hitting these Arkansas winter grown rocks that come up every winter and eat up my bush hog frame. It will weigh in at about 1300 pounds so I am paying about $1.15 per pound which is less than I would have to pay for the material, rods and electricity to build it not to mention my $90 per hour labor cost (remember that thread)

I think most folks have either the metal or plastic canopy($200 or so for plastic) From photos and posts I would say that 75% of folks also have windshields which can be fairly cheap to high dollar. The cheap plexiglass wont last long before they get so scratched up that you cant see thru them in a sun glare situation. The glass windshield wont scratch up but are about $800 and will shatter if struck by a rock as one member here found out the hard way. So if you transport your RTV on a trailer, put it on backward or put up something to protect the windshield if you trailer it. Hopefully your rear screen will deflect any rocks thrown from your tire or passing auto if you have a rear screen.

Regarding plexiglass windshields: many folks dont know this, but you should never use any cleaner with ammonia in it on plexiglass. It will craze it with tinny small cracks and also turn it yellow over time. Use water only or dishwashing soap if greasy.

You can also use Prist or plexus, these products we use on all of our aircraft windscreens.

Why/How would plexiglas that sits in a garage and is never driven in the woods get scratched up?

If you clean the dust off it with a dry rag it will scratch ust like plastic polycarbonate eyeglasses and they are a harder plastic. You can get fine scratches in it even washing with water if you rub it with a cloth. THey may only be visible in a glare but the sure limit your visibility when they show up. My brother in laws Gator is 2 years old and is so scratched up that you can barely see out of it when facing into the sun.
For the difference in price for glass windshield ($880), you can replace the plexiglass or even Lexan several times, but the glass is nice to have and not worry to much about scratches.

Well, I purchased the used one and have had it about a week now. My son and I have been having a blast getting firewood in the bush. I am thrilled with the 900 so far.

We discovered that we will want a roof, snow and rain are a discomfort.

We also are waiting for the bracket to install a winch. He purchased a super winch. I have not been able to find a lot of photos of winch installs, I assume you would take off the brush guard when installing it and try to fit the winch into the cavity? Also, where have you guys mounted the remote plug? Do you also mount the switch or just use the remote?

Finally, what do you like for a roof? I see the Kubota steel roof is about $100 more than the plastic. Any real advantage to either?

Thanks in advance

I went with an easy-on and easy-off courdra top ($75) and vinyl windshield
($10) & I made a cargo-net out of parachute cord for my RTV 500.

I remove the top and windshield on sunny days and for highway travel in the trailer to deer camp etc.

On the winch; I let the dealership install it but their power source to supply
to the relay kept popping the 5 amp fuse in the bus tray. I chose another location that carries the amps much better. Kubota mounted the remote switch right of the steering column under the dash.

If you have a WARN, I find the factory in Clackamas Oregon very helpful; tough-love advice but very helpful as some of the winch components are real pricy

Agreed..My RTV500 had a glass upper 3/4 and a poly lower...After 1 year the lower poly piece was scratched beyond belief. I pay the premium for tempered glass. Plastic just doesn't last.

My rear "glass" was poly and anytime someone even touched it, there was a scratch. A $300 ripoff. If Kubota would have had a $500 glass rear window, I'd have paid for it.

I am asking for pro's or con's on the RTV900XT if anyone has one? I am looking to trade up to it.

Just got the 900rtvxts this week it looks great. I hooked up a trailer with about 750lbs of dirt bags. It pulled up and down a dirt path that has a 30+ percent grade. It felt very safe going down the hill.
