JD X495 & JD2520
I purchased my new 2520 in September. Previously I was using an X495 with the Front Quickhitch and JD 54" Blade for snow removal. I had to use chains on the X495, and was hoping to get away without chains with the new 2520.

With all the talk about the R4 Industrial tires not being all that good for snow removal, I was concerned about how they would work. The areas where I need to move snow are pretty flat, but nevertheless, I needed convincing. Based on suggestions from this forum, I did purchase a ballast box for added traction, which was definetely a wise investment. It sure does give much better traction.

Anyway, I no longer have any concerns about moving snow. For my purposes, this setup works great. I have posted a few pics, showing the snow we have at present. I have managed to pile up banks of over 5 feet, all with the blade.

I'm a happy camper, and no longer concerned about the R4's in the snow.

No, the rears are not filled. I want to be able to drop the weight off when I'm cutting grass. The ballast box is great for adding the weight only when you need it. It certainly does add traction. For a while this winter, I tried plowing without it, and it sure does make a difference with it on.

Do you have to use tools to switch between blade and loader?

No tools necessary to switch back an forth. Takes only a few minutes to remove the blade, and a few more minutes to attach the loader. The thing that takes the longest is to switch out the hydraulic lines for each attachment, which again, is really just another 5 minutes or so.

Hi Gittyup,

As REV says, it's not that big an operation. You also need to make sure that your loader is on a level surface when you drive the machine back into it.
A friend told me that he made the mistake of pulling the loader off on a lawn, and had no end of trouble putting it back on. Likely due to alignment issues.

Your friend is correct...I can assure you he used many 4 letter words that day:thumbsup:
