Yep! That is the downside of those. However, if you have a lathe, you can make splices with the exact inside diameter to match the bare wire and with the exact outside diameter to match the insulated part. A little solder, a little heat shrink and you have a butt splice that is much neater than the commercial ones. :)

I'll do this also, but I use a plastic coated butt connector minus the plastic.

Most of the time I can just push the metal portion out, once in a while I have to cut it off.

But your right, it makes a much 'classier' looking connection.

You might want to source out bare connectors rather than buying the insulated ones. It would probably be a bit cheaper and a whole lot handier! :)

OK, I'll go with the Andersens and the corrosion proof safety boots on each side for a little extra corrosion protection. Now I gotta decide wire size. I think it's 10 ga.
If it's 12ga, do they make a lighter connector for 12 ga wire?

Sorry for a late response but did you get this done and what gauge wire did you use ?

What amperage draw are you applying to the circuit ?
