The dreaded air!!!! Lucky it was so easy (and cheap) to fix.

I was leery of loosening the injector nuts to test the individual cylinders because many engines (including my tractor) will run just fine with the nut loose and leaking fuel. In fact, when bleeding air out of the system, the engine usually starts running the moment fuel gets to the injectors, even though some air must be getting in as well.

I'm glad you're back up and running!!

Me too:) When I loosened the injector lines I put a rag around them before loosening to dampen the high pressure jet effect. Worked pretty good. I did learn through all this more about the injectors, pump and governor.

I still need to find somebody that can help me adjust the injection limiting linkage. I played with it to see what it does and found out what NOT to do with it but I don't think I got it back to the right adjustment. The service manual tells how but I still can't find everything it says to check for. I'm sure it comes into play somehow in the way the governor responds to a load on the engine.

The problem was the fuel bowl. Somehow when I changed the filter and put on a new bowl the bowl did not seat all the way. It wasn't leaking any fuel but apparently was sucking just enough air into the fuel to cause the power loss and rough idle.
I'm glad you found the problem.

Looking at your photo - the line from the tank should go into the filter at the top left; ie the input to the filter assembly is the side nearest the rear of the tractor. Is yours plumbed that way?

You want the input water and crud to be visible in the bowl on the external surface of the filter, not concealed inside the filter as it loads up.

Those hoses appear to loop around to the opposite connectors.

The shut off valve on mine is on the right side looking straight at the filter. According to my manual, the tank comes in on the right to the shut off valve and the line to the pump is on the left. May be different on other models. If I put the tank line on the left I would have no way to shut off fuel to change the filter.

yes those filter assemblys are a problem, i ditched both of mine. on the 1500 i used a CAV setup and it works great( no leaks!!) and on the YM14 i just used a plastic disposable one as when i removed the factory unit 1) it was leaking anyway and 2) it had no filter in it  i will get another CAV for it as well. the filters are only about $5 AUD available just about anywhere here.

When this one starts showing signs of needing replaced I will just go back to what I had on it before and do away with the whole shut off valve/fuel bowl assembly. It worked fine and I should have stayed with it. I'll come up with another type of shut off valve. It's a pain now that the loader is on and the brace arm is in the way anyways.

Something is not right with that filter assembly. Has it been disassembled and re-assembled incorrectly? The shutoff valve is on the opposite side of all others.

It must be something about the 1900 and 1600 tractors. The parts manual shows it on the right side with the fuel line going from the left side to the pump.

That's really strange. I would have thought Hoye's pic came directly from the YM1900 parts manual, although it does look identical to the YM2000.

The YM1900 seems to have been a sort of fill in model between model changes. Most of the tractor is the same as 2000 but every now and then I find something a little different. I think it was used as a test platform and later refined in the following models.

I have run into a few problems with Hoye's parts for the 1900 not matching my service manual drawings. Maybe they used the drawings available to them at the time and never updated them. Still, at least they have always been able to find the right part or just let me send it back.

Mmm bit strange. i just checked the one i took off the YM14 and it is on the left.

I think it has to do with where it is mounted on the tractor. If the lines were reversed as other models, it would be a very tight fit to get the fuel line out of the right side due to the governor housing so close.

Hears mine. On the YM2000 I guess it could have been put in backackwards when going through it. ;) Not the case looking at the tension screw at the top. I'm leaning to used for a different model or left over from another. Be a good reason concidering the Ym1900 was a short run somewhat rare model.

Two things I see different on mine are the fuel line from the tank comes into the back of mine and the side on yours. Also, mine is mounted much lower on the block than yours. They probably moved it up to give better fuel flow to the injector pump.

If you look hard there is a factory painted bracket mounted to the the back of my Fuel Filter and to the Eng.. Still the same Principle just Routed different.

For whatever reason Yanmar changed the fuel bowl shut off design I assume it was for improvement. The Hoye diagram shows the bracket but my parts manual shows only a bolt into the block. Which is what I have. I do have 2 studs on the cylinder head where your bracket is mounted but nothing is attached to them. My manual also shows the 2 studs with nothing attached. Something was attached to them at one time as there is a piece of old gasket stuck to the head.

Is that a short filter element like my photo below?

Here's what I received when I watched them remove this filter assembly from a VN-reconditioned YM2000 that the importer had taken back on warranty.

I couldn't find the short replacement element anywhere so I bought the correct bowl that should have been on there.

I think the point here is some VN 'rebuilts' are assembled by grabbing random used parts out of a barrel. Since the dealer took this donor tractor back on warranty and parted it out, it must have been a real Frankenstein-mar.

Yeah the YM14s one is shorter than the one i took off the 1500 but i's not as short as the one you have pictured:confused: too many variables to these units. the 1500 is a Vn so who knows but the YM14 was sold here new so no mods or bodgy rebuilds.the filter assembly had never been removed from the unit either as the bolt was hard to remove and was like brand new . did finally get my service manual for it today also, geez 414 pages of it. well done power ag and yanmar australia. looking at it briefly they also had a YM12:drool:
