Any chance of pictures of your blade hitched up to your tractor? 5-600lbs should work ok. My first rear blade weighed 680lb I think, it would roll the dirt as in the picture. No a lighter blade is not going to work as well with harder ground, but you say that your ground is shovel soft, most any blade should be working. Your boom should be just about parallel to the ground. The blade should be built so that the cutting edge is pretty close to the correct angle to be cutting most material.
