Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Snow plow damaging tractor?

Does Curtis supply a cross over relief valve on their FEL mount snow plows? What is the small block with hyd. hoses attached for in the pic?

How about mounting a snow plow on a full size backhoe loader? Does anyone see any harm in that?

I just use a 12' "pusher box" when I do snow removal with my backhoe. It hangs off the FEL bucket. Been doing that for 20 years. Still haven't broken a loader arm with all those extreme torsional forces.

The do make power angle snowplows for backhoes. My Case 580 had a FFC quick attach front coupler that would take a variety of equipment like PA plows & power brooms.

Yes, that is it with the hoses attached to.

I have nearly the same plow.

Thomas, Are you going to use this setup on your new tractor ?

I believe the "Torsional Forces" only come into play when you angle the blade and put a side load onto the loader frame. A pusher box is just that a box not unlike using the loader bucket itself to move snow. That would not create any side loading as they are not angled (at least the ones I have seen are not).

I would think a straight blade would also work fine as that should not create any side loading on the loader frame. I am contemplating picking up a used plow off Craigslist and welding the blade so it does not angle, leaving the trip springs and then putting a skid steer type Q/A plate on it so it would replace my bucket. That should not create any issues unless I ram something solid which would also be a problem when using the bucket to. I currently use just the bucket for snow removal so a blade should be an improvement.

I'm getting ready to set up a plow for my tractor (for the "extra cleanup tasks" when it snows. I do most of my plowing with my F-250). Can anyone recommend (or recommend against) a specific skid steer plate? Northern Tool is inexpensive compared to many, but not sure if it is "strong enough" or not. Curious for the experience of others. Feel free to private message me if you like, especially if you'd rather not post a negative review of a specific plate publicly.

Already planning to add crossover relief, thanks to others for adding that suggestion!

Thanks!

I found the best deal on a SS plate at my local tractor dealer. They had 3 to choose from and no shipping charge.

I would like to know what pressure JD, Meyer's, Western and Curtis use but have been unable to find out (But I have not seriously perused it either-a phone call to one of the company's may yield the answer)

I emailed Curtis about the relief setting on their FEL mount snow plows and they said that the relief block is set at 1500 psi at the factory but are adjustable.

That is great info! Lower that I thought it would be-but a great starting point I think.
