This started out as a catch pen with a loading chute to help me work my newly acquired hobby cattle. Not wanting to take up any more pasture than necessary I decided to attach a desperately needed shed to keep some things out of the elements. I started the last weekend in January and I have been working on it off and on since then. I finished the metal roof this weekend although I have been using the head gate since February. I worked alone for 95% of this project and it shows in my time frame but not in the quality of the finished product. I am very happy with the end result.

The poles are in and it is time to start the board sides.

Now it is time for the metal to go on the roof. This was by far the quickest part of the project. It took 42 3x12 sheets.

I like the shed!! I've got to do about the same thing in the next year or so...what are your shed diminsions/4X4s? /2X6s?, ...how many, etc. I need a place to get some equipment out of the weather...thanks for the pics! BobG in VA

The poles are 4x4, each 3 feet in the ground. The boards spanning between the poles are 2x6 and the rafters are 2x4. The front is 9 feet high and the back is 7 feet high. We don't know what a snow load is down here so all the roof has to do is support the metal. I tried to slope it enough so that any pine needles will just wash off with rain. I may put a wall along the back but I have not decided yet.

The cows I got would snap those 4x4s right in half. Of course, mine can be half wild when I bring them in. Still I would go with at least 4x6s or even 6x6s. I would also try to use rough cut dimensional lumber.

Yours does look real nice, though. What breed are you feeding?

You mean you wouldn't let your 7 month old daughter "hang out" with the cows in the pasture? We like to put a range cube in my daughters hand and see if the cows can get to it before she puts it in her own mouth :).
I just have a few mixed breed cows. Nothing fancy. They are bred right now by a Brangus bull.
