I ordered (and paid for) a landscape rake for my 5425 over a month ago and it still has not arrived. I called the salesman and he said he was checking into it.

At this point, I'd really rather have the top dollar money I paid for it returned and go down the street and pick one up at quite a discount. At what point in time do I get to say "Just forget it, give me my money back"?

I also put down a 7,000.00 deposit when I ordered the tractor (about two months ago) and since I financed the entire amount, I would think two months is more than enough time for the deposit money to be returned. I'm a pretty patient guy but...this seems a little ridiculous.

What say you all?

I dont think I would call, I would go down there and talk to them in person and resolve it right then end there.

Right about now.

I would go down there in the morning and cancel the order. They may try to tell you it has been shipped already, but then ask them for proof of that. If it hasn't been shipped you should get your money back. They will do a lot to get a disgruntled customer out of their showroom.

As far as your deposit, I would want to walk out of the dealership with a check. In many states $7k will be a small claims action.

Depending on what happens, you may need to write a blunt, but businesslike, letter to them and hand deliver it the next day.

Have you made your first payment on the tractor and the implement package you purchased?

If so, then you're already paying for the landscape rake...

And if you've already started the loan payments - for the entire amount - the deposit should rightfully be returned to you - ASAP!!

Best of luck.

Landscape rake....I'd give em the opportunity to get one...like Yesterday...Tell em something along the lines of "If you dont have a rake for me TOMORROW, I want my cash back"...they had plenty of time to get one...not too many options and such on rakes, so it should easily be an in stock item.

Tractor...Dunno what to tell you...my 3520 was on the lot and it took a month to deliver it (Issues with getting the correct wheel weights from Deere)...so I can see it taking a little longer on a complete tractor coming from Deere.

Long story short, I never put any money down on anything. Cash down just slows things down IMO. I dont know how many stories I've heard of people calling for a status on something and the dealer response is "Oh, its been here for 2 weeks now"...with no money down, they pratically call you when the delivery truck takes the driveway to deliver it.

Ultimately, sounds like you got a "Dealer" problem....switch dealer, switch brand...do what you need to do....theres no reason for this.
When I was waiting for my wheel weights/tractor, they kept me up to speed with everything. I never once felt like I was being led around....the day the correct weights showed up, they installed them and brought my tractor over....AND threw in a few extras as a "Sorry about the wait" bonus...which I didnt even ask for.

I guess dealers are diffenent depending on location. I ordered my 3320 with a 300CX loader late last August. I financed the entire amount through Deere with no money down. The tractor came in around the end of September and the loader the end of October. I didn't do any paperwork toward the financing until a couple of days after they delivered the tractor. I knew up front that my dealer didn't keep attacments on hand. They did give me a rough time line for delivery when I ordered, but the loader was what went over on time. I didn't really need the tractor by a set date so it wasn't a big deal. They did call and keep me updated on the delay. I have bought other L&G equipment in the past so that might have made a difference.

When I wanted a 4in1 bucket it was diffenent. They could not even find a price to quote me so I had to buy from another dealer.

Get your $7k back, If your financing is approved and you have the tractror the problem is in their hands not yours.

I agree Never put money down on a promise to deliver unless they guaranty delivery which i'm sure they wont. Framer

Yup, time's up. Dealer likely trying to "bunch" his orders to save freight costs.

With the economy worsening, should we do a separate thread regarding large deposits and small dealer financial stability? I almost lost $15,500 in the early 1980's when dealer failed.
Now if I make a deposit I use a credit card so I have bargaining rights and refund protection.

But, there is time limites with the credit card also on some things.

Unless the dealership told you up front about the time delay I would not be happy. Before you do make refund demand, have you checked to see if any other dealership has what you want in stock within say a 100 miles?

Regardless....I'd still be making refund demands. Whats gonna happen when you need a service item/accessory/etc.. in a pinch? Dealer gonna wait till he's good and ready or you gonna get your part/accessory in a timely fashion? Its clear that even relatively large sums of money doesnt motivate him...

This is a case of you buying the dealer more then the actual tractor....Find another green dealer or an Orange dealer that can provide the necessary sales & service.

He might end up very unhappy if he wants a certain model that is really in short supply or dealership is not the delay to pass on this one and then find out no good options. I will quickly admit it seems the dealership is not professional but it pays to know your options. He could tell the dealership due to how long it is taking I am requesting my deposit and you can call me when it gets in. That way door has not been closed.

I think that unless your shopping for a new Green Combine its a non-issue, even then...I heard that because of a huge Combine order that was cancelled from Russia the timetable has been advanced significantly...You'll have access any tractor you want. Lets face it, ANY new tractors regardless of country of origin and color arent exact flying off dealer lots...IF A dealer is worth his salt, He'll get you whatever you want thru whatever channels (Dealer Swaps, etc)

What would make you more unhappy....a busted tractor in your yard thats down due to lack of service & parts availability or one that is well serviced by a dealer?

I'm very confident that if my tractor goes down I make a single call and the dealer's field service is here as soon as possible.

I think more then any other product, with tractor's your buying the dealer more then the machine. I'd get over the little "only this model makes me happy" hangup and go get a Kubota, CaseIH or whatever other well serviced brand is around. I absouletly love my 3520 and the dealer that sold it to me, but I can tell you there are some geographical areas that I wouldnt get caught dead in a green machine because of the dealer.

The Pro's of a good dealer far outweight the "make do with a crappy dealer because I want a specific model"

I would wait a little longer for the rake to come in, but the $7,000 deposit should be returned immediately. You bought the equipment and should be a good future customer I hope your dealer is astute enough to recognize it.

Has he given you a specific date to expect the incoming order yet?

I wouldn't wait any longer on either item. Cancel the rake order and get the deposit back when you visit. If they give you trouble, it's probably time to call a lawyer. I have no idea what dealer you're talking about, but some tractor dealers are now going into bankruptcy, and if yours did while holding the deposit, you might have a very long wait to ever get it back, and might not even get it all back. The situation you describe sounds weird and not right.

I think the dealer was told of, or read the post because they snapped to attention when I telephoned.

It was a miracle!

The rake just ...showed-up! And the check was hand delivered, with the rake the next day.

Was it just a glitch, a breakdown, or was something going on? I really don't know, but it is over now and I thank you all for your support and advice.

Found another dealer that's actually closer and they appear to be on top of their game.
