Oil & Fuel l3400 oil change

Oil change question on l3400. I drained all of the old oil opening the 2 drain plugs and removed old filter and installed a new filter. The book said 6qrts with filter. I used 6 qrts exactly but the oil level is an inch over the top fill mark???I am positive I drained all the old oil I let it drain for 10 min caps open ect..

Same thing happened to me the first time.

I drained some out, I always go by the dipstick. Second thought was, either there is still oil in there somewhere or 6 quarts is nominal. Never gave it a third thought.

Did you start the tractor after you poured the oil in? The new filter will retain some..

I'd like to tell you the same thing happened to me, but.... I was out in the garage making some "shelves" for my wife & going back & forth to the tractor. I left one drain plug out & dropped nearly a gallon on the floor. When all said & done, I used the remainder of the 2nd gallon of Shell Rotella & the level was perfect.

What a gooey mess new oil makes.

I just thought of one more point... With two drain pans, it might be possible that the one that has the dipstick in it might get a better shot of the new oil as you pour it in. You'll probably get a better reading after running the tractor a few minutes & checking again... Just a thought...

My L3400 came that way from the dealer. Just overfull. Maybe they just put in six and never checked it. Brian

Interesting...

When I had my 50 hour service done, the oil level was above the top notch. I assumed that the dealer new what he was doing so I left it that way. However, after moving about 6 yards of topsoil I noticed soot on my loader by the exhaust. I drained some oil to lower it to the top notch. I mentioned it to the dealer and I was told they put in what was specified. I thought maybe some oil was not completely drained as well.

I will be changing my oil at the 100 hour mark shortly. I notice the manual says the filter does not need to be changed. Do most igmore the manual and change the filter as well?

I change filter and oil at 50 hrs regardless. I'm only putting 50-60 hrs per year on my machine so that is a no brainer for me. Filter is easy to change while I am waiting for the oil to drain out and the cost is minimal.

I go by the dipsticks, and it seems every Kubota I have owned, from L2350s to L48s to KX121 excavators have never been "on the money" what the manual says. Filters are cheap in the broad scheme of things so I replace them as well.

LOL! I'm not sure Brian. I think it might be time for you to trade up with that many hours on your rig.

The same thing happened to me. I drained 1/2 quart to bring the level to the correct level on the dip stick.

It seems stupid even to me but I was actually considering a similiar horsepower in the Grand L just for the stronger loader. I move both square and large round bales and it does not take very long and the hours not adding up.

Since shimming up my relief valve the weight is now not a problem.

Of course right now my local dealer sure has good pricing on the Grands but I would get killed on my L3400.

I think this Summer I will get some time on it. I felt pretty good when I got under the $1000.00 per hour mark in costs. Brian

Up here in Canada, you tend to lose a lot on transaction costs (sales taxes). Trade in prices I have been offered when I looked into it, were a joke

I figure at about 3 years and 150 hrs, it has depreciated about as much as it will . I'll probably get not much less than I would get for it today on the used market after another 5 years when it has 400 hrs on it.

Plus if I ever trade, the new tractor is going to have a CAB and probably a backhoe and all of that is going to add up and my wife is going to throw me out.

Are you moving those bales with the 3pt or a loader mounted spear? I was putting out a 5x6 round for the horses with the 3pt today and for the first time it grunted and i felt like it was at its limit. It did the job fine but I was wondering if I shouldn't shim as well. I imagine it will give me another 150 odd pounds at the 3pt.

On any of my equipment, I never trust the manual for exact capacities, I drain and fill to full line, run motor to fill filter then fill to full line and write it down either on hood, valve cover...etc

I use a bucket mounted bale spear. I welded a piece of 3x2 angle on the top edge of my bucket. I then bought a bale spear and made up a system to easily attach and remove it from my bucket. It works pretty slick. Brian

The manual I have says my fuel tank is supposed to be 9 gallons.

Well, the other day I ALMOST ran out of gas.
The Gauge said empty and I decided to just move it out of the garage before refueling it. For some reason I don't remember putting it up empty.

Anyway, once it was outside I decided to check just how low it really was.. and with a flashlight the bottom of a dry tank was plainly obvious..

When I refilled it, it took 1 full 5 gallon can and maybe 1/4 of another to fill to the middle of the neck on the tank when the cap fits.. Even if it was to the brim it would have only been another 4 onces!

So where in the world do they get 9 gallons?
I would say 6.5 maybe 7...
Could it really hold 2 to 2.5 gallons between the lines, filter and injector assembly?

I think I should say full 5 gallon tank to the fill line.. not above it..
If it was totally full I could see it adding up to 9 gallons.

I've put 8 gallons in my L2800 once... not sure why the darn thing even HAS a fuel gauge... It will read empty after 4-5 gallons are used. If kuboota quality is this good, how bad are these other brands???
