Have not had to use tractor in 4 days (but darn sure will need to move snow) tomorrow, Altough the diesel is winter blend , with three nites of O deg temp and worse tonigh i decided to add some power service, added 5oz to 6.5 gal tank started tractor and let it run about 20 min. all was fine. question WAS 5 oz TOO MUCH FOR 6.5 GAL. AND WILL IT HARM ANYTHING?

That amount of additive will not harm a thing. After you experience the joys of removing wax deposits from a fuel jelling event adding extra additive will become a way of life!

Extra won't hurt at all. I think the recommended mix is 2oz to 5gal.

thanks that i what i thought, i don't normally add power service unless i have some summer blend to use up.But it has been very cold and i THOUGHT an OZ of preventino (in this 5oz) would be a good idea Mabey i will just add a little addative to every tank full.

I just add til' I think it's "good", extra won't hurt anything.

Extra will not hurt but it MUST be added before the fuel gels. Pour point depressants will not break up existing wax formations, it only prevents them from forming in the first place. Point being, make sure you use the additive before the fuel gets cold or it will do nothing at all. There are additives that will reliquify gelled fuel but most are alcohol based and it is not recommended to use them all the time.

Well Lee, the diesel gallon is measured at 60 F, and each gallon of diesel will expand 0.00046 percent for every degree you raise the temp. You'll need to multiply it out for how many degrees you increased (or decrease) the temp, and then adjust for the the .58 oz. Also consider the ounce of additive will also be temperature dependent so there needs to be an adjustment in that measurement also. :D:D:D:D

This is going to sound really dumb - but where do I find PSA? have not seen it in my area?
thanks.

NAPA and Walmart carry PowerService in my neck of the woods.

walmart closest to work didn't have it when i was looking - will check napa.
thanks!

I remember reading a msg from the PS people.. and you can actually use a 'stupid' amount of concentration without harm.. but you get no bettter results than about the double dose level.. etc... at least for the white bottle anyway..

If you read the label, 32 oz. treats 100 gallons of fuel; ergo 32 oz. divided by 100 gallons = .32 oz., times 5 gallons = 1.6 oz., doubled equals 3.2 oz. per 5 gallons for the recommended maximum doseage ;) I reused an empty 32 oz. Sta-Bil bottle; the one with the little measuring vial attached, and filled with the PS. Squeeze the bottle to fill the vial to the one oz. level three times, dumping each time of course, then to the quarter oz. level and voila!, you have your measured max. dose ;) I'm of a frugal nature and won't waste anything

Tractor Supply sells the PS cheaper than WalMart in my area....

Read the new PS labels before you add it, because the instructions have changed. They no longer tell you to double dose for winter, and the bio dose rates are down quite a bit. It makes me think too much is a bad thing for the engine, or that too much doesn't work as well as the proper dose. I posted about this a month or two ago but here are the dose comparisons again right off the white bottles:

Old bottle rates:
Summer = 32 oz per 100 gallons of fuel (.32 oz per gallon)
Winter = 32 oz per 50 gallons of fuel (.64 oz per gallon)
BioDiesel = 32 oz per 30 gallons of fuel (1 oz per gallon)

New bottle rates:
Winter and Summer = 1 oz per 3 gallons of fuel (.33 oz per gallon)
BioDiesel = 2 oz per 30 gallons of fuel (.64 oz per gallon)

Perhaps they have changed their formulation, as the last bottle I purchased still had the X2 winter doseage recommendation :confused::confused: Certainly want to adhere to manufacturer's recommendation's on (any) additive ;)

I got away from the messy measuring cups and funnels and the need to clean them all up after every use when I set up my fuel drum and pump.
Now I simply dump a quart of PS in the drum before filling it.

I've done the same. It's quick and easy. Two squirts to the 1oz mark and then I'm off to fill the diesel can. I've had no gelling issues using road diesel (pre treated I'm sure) and adding PS.
