BX-24 and Kubota

Hmmm, seems that everyone in this discussion must be relatively new members. When the BX24 came out, these things were cracking left and right. There was thread after thread on this forum about this. First, Kubota balked, then they made a retrofit reinforcement piece, then they made a new fender that was beefier and had structural reinforcement ribs in the mold for the fender. The later BX24s had this beefier fender put on them when manufactured and anyone with a broken older one got it replaced for free. In doing this, they have already established that they had a flawed product and they have established extensive precedent in remedying the problem.

When the BX25 came out, the plastic had been done away with and the BX came full circle back to metal fenders. Several of the engineering section heads who had pushed so hard for plastic were even fired during a small reorganization.

Perhaps they wanted this replacement to have a closure of time period. Quite a few folks got hurt when they stepped on the floorboard, the fender cracked, the floorboard fell, and there was an injury. This was a very big problem for them. Maybe they think you don't know about all this history. Go back, search the archives, and read how bad it was. Then let them know that you are aware of it and that you have plenty of ammo to play legal hardball if needed. I would not go in guns blazing, however let them know you know the full story now, then start to slowly tighten the screws until there is enough pressure for them to cave.

Does anyone know if Kubota is replacing the floorboard/fender units out of warranty. I fell off of mine today after the floorboard gave way. I asked about this at the dealer about a year ago after a friend's cracked. {They replaced his} I was told that some were built with reinforcments and some without, If I did not recieve anything from Kubota I shouldnt worry about it. Well, I took them at their word and today I fell flat on my back, if not for the snow behind me it would have been much worse. Monday I am storming to my dealer to insist on replacment even though out of warranty by 6 months or so. Anyone know if Kubota has a "secret" warranty to replace these?

Another problem I had with a bx2200 was front axle seals leaking. The problem in my opinion is when you pull off the fluid check plug there would be a good amount of pressure in the axle. There is no need for that to be pressurized that it should be vented to relieve the pressure on the seals. What I understood from my dealer.. that Kubota has a vented check plug for this...I have not seen it yet.

If you get any info on this PLEASE let us old timers with the BX2200 know.:D

They wouldnt fix mine when it was in warranty....I have fallen also when it gives way. Now that it is out of warranty they dang sure wont fix it. This is coming from Kubota itself after my dealer would not do anything with the seat or the fender. If Kubota says no the dealer isnt going to eat the cost either. They told me if I got hurt it was not due to the issue with the fender. They acted as if there is not an issue.

Well, I talked to the dealer today (Midstates Equip). Service manager told me they would take care of everything except delivery of tractor to the dealer. I am 6 months out of warranty. I will keep you posted

Well, guess what, I have a month old BX25, and there's movement in the flooring when I step on that same spot. Wouldn't exactly call it a problem at this point, but it gets my attention every time. Hope it doesn't get worse. You'd think since they knew it's a design shortcoming they might have corrected it by now and beefed it up a bit at the factory. It must cost more for them to do so after the sale.

I weigh about 180 with a few layers of winter clothing...maybe they designed the machine with smaller, Japanese people in mind??

Hey, Tractor Factor, I have the exact same problem, where it sounds like the floor is dropping a bit. (I thought it was just me, as I'm... more than 180.) I'll have to have a look underneath to see if there is some easy way to reinforce it.

Mine was out of warranty, but the dealer (HiWay 6 Tractor Council Bluffs IA) and the regional rep readily agreed to fix it at no charge. There are good guys out there with common sense.

Take Care

I am assuming the camera person and your BH is on a slight incline .... otherwise the house in the background is sinking into the earth!

Your right.....It looks like that.. But that slope keeps going past the house another 150 feet to a beautiful lake I live on. Gods country..Believe me my house is not sinking.

The step kit consists metal brackets to reinforce the old fenders.
Shown here:

The redesigned fender has support ribs. Here is a side-by-side of the old and new fenders.

...and here is a .pdf of how I replaced the fender myself. I wasn't able to bring the tractor to the dealer, so they sold me a new fender, then gave me a credit when I brought the old one back. I think it was about $400.

Just one question, why is your bota on its side?....lol
Nice pictures, hope you didnt flip it just for the pictures :D

Singlecoil - Good to see that you are still getting good use out of your flipped tractor picture. It sure is a good way to show people the underbelly. Good for Bro-Tek also!!

OK....UPDATE.

I took the trctor 80 miles to the dealer based off a phone call from some Top Dog with Kubota. The dealer has it and asked me who I talked to because they still do not want to replace the fender, knobs or broken seat. I told them who it was and they kept the tractor. We will see what happens.

When they replace the fender with the new design, do they add the steel braces underneath also or are the braces just used to support the older, weaker fender?

Hate it when a good company balks at helping, knowing they have a factory problem...Reminds me of insurance...They'll take your money all day long, year after year, but when you have a claim they act like it's going to bury them and then they increase your rates...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Well, its all done. First they told me that Kubota would only cover the parts and 1 hour of labor. So I was going to install everything myself. Then on the day I was picking up the parts they told me that Kubota changed their policy and would now cover all labor also. Because of the hassle of trailering the tractor 25 miles, I still decided to do it myself. Denny at Midstates of Jackson,WI was very easy to work with on this. Very satisfied

I have a new BX24 with just 28 hours on it and it developed a crack between the 12V outlet and the edge of the part. It seemed more of a cosmetic thing but obviously there were/are stresses in the fender causing the issue. I called up the Dealer and they said they would take care of replacing it with no questions asked. My dealer is in Issaquah, WA and they really seem to take care of their customers. I will take a look at the underbelly to see if my tractor is of the older design and doesn't incorporate the floor support brackets. I would be suprised that Kubota hasn't been shipping their newer tractors with the upgrade with all the mess it has cost them. I have noticed some movement in the floor when climbing on, maybe that is what caused my small crack and not installation/molding stresses I suspected. Thanks for all this background information it definitely makes me a wiser consumer knowing how the repair should be done. In retrospect I should have considered the BX25 I guess. But I love me tractor!
