Most LP units over about 30kW and pretty much everything over 50kW are liquid withdrawal using vaporizers as the surface area required becomes extreme even in warm conditions.

Same for automotive, as far as I know they are all liquid withdrawal though it doesn’t help with starting in the cold unless you have a block heater.

Nice thing with dual-fuel (gasoline/propane).... being able to start on gasoline when it's really cold. Can't remember the exact term for it (it's basically a heat-exchanger)..... the automotive systems I've seen have a coolant/propane module - once the coolant is close to operating temperature, then flip over to propane.....

I though I would share a video I posted on utube a couple years ago starting my L70 Yanmar in subzero weather.
Prior to this video I was not quite sure how it would start.
Needless to say I was impressed!!
It is a military long run version with a 3 quart deep sump and bypass filter.
It also has an intake grid heater that heats in approx 10 seconds.
For those that think a small diesel will not start in extreme cold this is impressive.

very impressive! For my Perkins Diesel Genset I added a block heater for my winter weekly test starts to relieve some of the starter stress and maybe some wear, also changed to 5w40 T6 instead of 10w30.

I'd expect good things of pretty much any Yanmar or Perkins.

And.... nothing wrong from borrowing from the big guys..... saw an ad for a JDM 3.0L Mitsu diesel suv out West.... guy dropped an Espar into it (diesel-fired coolant heater).... runs a timer, so just fires up 45 minutes before you want to go. Worked fine in Alberta, so would do the job most anywhere; no electrons needed....

Yes very true,I have spent a few years maybe more in the North and a good reminder is ensure you get summer diesel fuel out before it gets cold..
