How old is THAT?
Growing up everyone's phone all around our area, even the city was Victor. Ours was VI 5626. My in-laws had same number since 1932 until 2007 when Mom passed, number when they bought their new house. A party line with fewer people until late 70s. When she passed looking at her records she never owned the phone but paid 50 cents/month rent. $450 rent!!!!!

Growing up the party line that we had consisted of us and the neighbors on the same road, which indicated a physical requirement, but it let us know our neighbors better (when we needed to butt in and ask for the line). Later there were other people from nowhere near that were on the line that did not allow us to butt in. Mind you that would be only after waiting for an hour for the conversation about bunions and whatever to end. That was when we switched to a private line since there was no longer a physical limitation.
