YM 187 Yanmar / JD 790
Hey all:

Got a question for some of the dealers and Yanmar guru's out there.

I happened along a somewhat beat up YM226 sitting along sit the road today on a hay run. I haven't herd it run or been up close to to it (looked at it over a fence) but will get a better look at in the morning and maybe hear it run.

I'm gettin' the itch to break out the spray gun and play with another diamond if the ruff....can parts and manuals still be had for the tractor easly. I know the YM187 I put back together some time back, I had no problem with most parts. Is it the same with the YM226......

He's got a $4,000.00 price tag on it and there is one on E-bay in the $2,000.00 range at the moment and it's in a whole lot better shape then the one on the road.

Anyone have any words of wisdom, Wifey ain't real happy when I came home and droped the bomb on her /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hey Whiskey,
I think it's worth it, nice looking tractor, good HP. And, btw, I've got my eye on the ebay 226... yeah, anyone in PA want to do a site inspection for me? i'll pay PM me if interested.

anyway, Whiskey, as my wife says, one in, one out.. promise that and then tell 'er you've had problems getting one out.. ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I tried that with my wife a few months ago. She said "One out first!" So I still have the first one. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

SO, ya still got the YM169D.....I can remember you talkin' about getting ride of one....I see that hasn't happened yet!

Good luck bidding on it, I've been watching the YM336D on Ebay and some guy is driving the price up with a bunch of bids....or so it seems (I don't know a whole lot about the bidding process on Ebay...I just watch)

This one sitting on the side of the road is not even close to the shape of the YM226 on Ebay and it's not a 4x4. My dad always told me to insult them with the first offer, all they can do is say no!

I'll take my camera along in the morning and snap some shots and post them......it is in need of some TLC /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Whiskey, Ya, I still have the 169, it's a good machine, hasn't done me wrong, but I need more power. however, withat said, it had no problem plowing 18" of snow last weekend. I'm looking to consolidate my 169 and 1601.

Ya, i've been looking at that 336d too. It's getting a little expensive with the up bidding going on. Take some pics of the 226 in your area, we'll give you some feedback...

in the meantime, ironically, if anyone wants to do a site inspection of the 226 in PA, let me know... If I end up buying it, I'll buy you lunch plus, since i'll have to pick it up, promise to be a real treat HA HA /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif serious, i'll be looking for local appraisal. thanks, -art

Well, I just got back and even the wife said it looked like it was salvagable (perk!) I called the phone number and left a message....so we'll see

I still haven't seen the hour meter, didn't want to jump the fence and be dodgin' bullets. Any guess of what it's worth with pictures?

Whiskey,

All I can tell you is they made them from about '81 thru '91, and the last year retailed for $9K.

So now it's all about condition and hours. That is a nice heavy (2300*) tractor. You could hit it with a roller or paint brush and turn it into a good lookin' rig /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Hey all,

Yeah, this tractor doesn't look like it's in too bad a condition. My 169 looks similar, but it runs fine. Hopefully this one just has some cosmetic issues--- and the sheet metal all looks good, so Whiskey maybe you could just drive it into the redneck paint shop and shine it up??

Maybe wait and see what the 226 on ebay sells for, then adjust the price for being a 4x2 and make an offer? Let us know how it turns out...

Questions about the 226:
1. can it support a FEL? What size?
2. Is this the same / similar tractor to a 2210?
3. did all models have powershift?

It seems like a very decent tractor, just not very common. Or maybe not either? Any feedback on how common this model is/was? Seems like hoye has good parts support either way (where I've bought my parts in the past).

Thanks all, -art

I kind of think the YM226 was a fairly populer model for domestic Yanmars. All the ones I have seen were powershift models. As for the loader, Yes it can handle a loader but what size I can't help you on. I don't know what Gray version it is close to.......wasn't much help was I....

Anywho, I still have not got a phone call back on the one I was looking at.....maybe it was sold buy the time I placed the call........

The grey model is a 1820D. I have one that I bought from Len Sheaffer about a year ago. Len set up a Koyker 110 on it and it works just fine. The tractor has been working out great for me.

I would wager that you can buy a YM1810D or 1820D that looks like new for the same price as discussed for the 226. If not at least the same by the time you buy the paint and acc. to get it looking the same.

I have a 226D with FEL. Great tractor and no problems getting parts so far. When I got it there were some minor problems (4 wheel drive not working-water pump-starter not kicking in) but with a manual from Hoye I got the parts and it's been great. I have put over 100 hours in the last 3 months trouble free.

Well, Whiskey, the one on ebay sold for 4000.00. It had 4x4 and looked pretty good. And it didn't sell to me. Couple of reasons why I didn't buy it: a) couldn't find out for sure what the HP of the engine is, some say 20, 24, 26; b) I broke my 1601 which precludes me from trying to get another tractor before it's fixed and ready for resale.

but, anyway, any word on the one near you? !? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Does the # 22 ring a bell? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I was told a long time ago (right or wrong?) that on domestic Yanmars the first two numbers of the three numbers were hp rating. This doesn't apply to the gray markets.

No phone call back as of yet....may have to do a "drive by" tonight and see if it's still there /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
