YM220 Project - Will not start

   / YM220 Project - Will not start #21
I've had a little more time to tinker with the tractor. It holds high speed very well. I ran it about 20 minutes between 1500 and 2600 RPMs with most of that time at 1500.

It doesn't like to hold the low idle very well -- Say around 500 RPMs. If I'm not careful it will die. Does anyone know what the low idle should be for a Yanmar YM220? There's a lot of slop in the throttle linkage so it might just need adjusting. I'll have to look at the Parts manual to see if there are bushings or other wear items missing that need to be replaced.
The manual for my 3 cylinder YM2310 says low idle is 900 RPM. BTW, RPM means Revolutions Per Minute. Adding the S after RPM is not necessary as Revolutions is already plural.
Cheers,
Eric

Ran the tractor some this evening. I've noticed I have to bleed the banjo bolt at the Injector pump occassionally - Like if it's been sitting overnight or when I'm running at low RPM it will die and not start again. I replaced the fuel line from the filter bowl to the injector pump thinking it might have a crack letting air in. It needed to be replaced, but made no difference. After running at high RPM for a little, I noticed I have a small leak in that bleeder bolt somewhere. I have already replaced the oring under the bleeder valve. Looks like I need to replace the whole thing - bolt assembly and washers. I've looked at the fitting (the piece the hose attaches to) and don't see anything wrong with it.

Try bypassing it completely..
Just get a double barbed connector and hook the 2 lines together.. just to see if indeed that’s your problem.

I haven't ordered any parts yet. I was thinking about the advice thepumpguysc gave in the post above. Why spend money on a part you might not really need only to discover the problem is something else. I was able to pull the copper washers off the banjo bolt on the fuel pump from the next project - a YM1900. Swapped out those copper washers and no more leak. The YM220 will now idle at about 750 without stalling. It will throttle up from this level and seems to run good at any RPM.

Next up for this tractor is looking into the hydraulic system. The PTO turns fine but has a small leak. The 3PT lift doesn't move. This appears to be because of a lack of fluid. It's not reading on the dip stick. I have what appears to be hydraulic fluid coming out of the break housing on the right side. I'm hoping this is just a seal or two.

Looks like I was wrong in post #24. After replacing the copper washers on the banjo bolt at the injector pump, the tractor ran good for a long while. I'm no longer leaking fuel at this fitting. However, periodically have to open the bleeder bolt and let air out. That first day, I ran the tractor probably an hour (maybe longer) without any issues. Now, I'm having to bleed just the one bleeder valve at the injector pump fairly frequently. Too often to be able to use the tractor in any meaningful way.
