I have had this thing for 7 years and not a problem till now. My son was bush hogging and it started sputtering and died, and would not restart. I have had to leave it outside for a couple months and it was low on fuel so I thought it could have got some condensation in the fuel. I bought some ISO and drained the bowl poured a little in the bowl and it started right up, which surprised me. I filled the tank and added some ISO to it also. Today I box bladed for 5 hrs and it started to miss and run rough, I was about done so I got it back to the house and shut it off.

Any suggestions where to start. I am going to change fuel filter, but it is not old. Plugged injector? Does any one use Sea Foam?

Thanks for any help.

i was thinking a bad fuel filter. Change it and then prime it useing the screw and cranking to get all the air out.

It quit the first time soon after starting, I don't think it's overheating but maybe.

What happens when the fuel injectors get dirty, I would assume it would be a constant thing, not intermittent. :confused2:

The owners manual for my 2002d under trouble shooting with the title "engine runs irregularly or stalls frequently", #4 listed is dirty or faulty injection nozzles. I agree with your thinking that the injectors would be constant but I don't know. Have you shined a bright flashlight in the tank and have confidence your fuel is clean and uncontaminated? Is your tank vented? Might try running with loosened fuel cap. Didn't remove the little fill strainer did you? When you say you don't think it is overheating do you have a gage or a light? Is any water boiling over to the overflow bottle?

Over heat light works, It happens every now and then when I bush hog and get a lot of chafe in the screen, I just washed it out the other day. Screen in place in tank, forgot about tank vent,,,, could be, I need to change my fuel filter tomorrow.

What is a good injector cleaner, if there is one, to add to fuel before I tear something down.

I use sea foam in all my gas vehicles, it says its for diesel to.

I don't think it's injectors. One might get crudded up, but never both simultaneously. In my experience crudded injectors made starting difficult (blobs instead of vapor) but as soon as it fired it ran the same as always.

I think this points to fuel starvation.

Any air leak between the tank and the pump can cause it to serve air instead of fuel. This would be the filter o-ring, or a bad hose or hose connection.

Or starvation could be crud blocking the tank outlet, or blocking anything downstream clear into the pump intake. When it stalls you might pull the hose off at the pump and see if it drains freely.

A mistake a few of us :D have made is to screw on the fuel tank cap so tight that it is airtight. This starves the pump.

Keep us informed as your investigation moves along!

I use a smaller hose for the return back into my tank no leaks or issues. I think I would start at the tank drain and clean it.Check that my fuel lines are not cracked and replace the Filter and cup o-ring. When you bleed your filter make sure you don't forget to bleed the pump also. There is a U-tube video Yanmar Tractor that will show you how to bleed both. Not much to it when you see how it's done.

was just thinking about the way you described it running ( sputtering )
sound like water getting into the Cylinders through a blown head gasket, not meaning to alarm you, But was the reason for mentioning if could have been run hot? Ya know the story on these Yanmars:cool: especially the ones with no water pumps ;)

A 2000 has a water pump, but not saying the rest of what you say could not be the case.
