I can't decide how to use my 6ft rear discharge mower, with the top link attached, or allow the deck to completely float with the top link unattached. My problem is when I go over a crest of a hill, or down a valley my top link is either to short for the crest allowing the back wheels to come off the ground, or it is too long not allowing the back wheels to come up high enough to articulate a valley. Does anyone else just use their top link for transport?

Around the property here I just drag it on its own wheels. I have the top link set so it engages the top floating linkage. with the linkage forward at a 45 degree angle. If I am going to transport it down the road, or load it on the trailer. I tighten the top link so the floating linkage is tight, and I can pick it up.

It works, I've done it, but don't like the inability to pick up the deck for whatever reason. Others have replaced (temporatrily while mowing, I guess) the top link with a length of chain so that they still can pick up the deck if needed, but that the chain allows more flex.

The chain trick could be interesting, but going over a crest of a mound it wouldn't allow the rear wheels follow the ground. Thanks for the replies guys.
