I just bought a Woods box scraper for my bx1500--model no. GBC48. I hesitated to buy the Woods because of the weight advertised on their web site--550lbs. The specs with the unit I bought and the weight my dealer assured me was 285 lbs. The scraper arrived and does indeed weigh in at the lower weight. Works well with my little tractor!! In 4-wheel, I can drag it full of gravel with the scarifiers set mid-depth!! Very pleased and glad to have bought the Woods quality. Just wonder why their web site lists the heavier weight. Almost lost me as a customer, but maybe it gains others!! At any rate, the specs should be the same--and accurate.

Hi, Congrats on your purchase. I just got a Kubota BX2200 and am new to the forum. What does a box scraper do exactly? I see them advertised at my dealer and at Tractor Supply Co. but I don't know what they are used for

I bought mine to maintain gravel drive--approxroximately .2mi. The scarifiers rake up compacted gravel to be moved via the rear "box" blade from higher to lower elevations, ie ridges to ruts and potholes, after they've been ripped by the rake action of the scarifiers. I tried to keep my drive up with a back blade for a year, but you really need something to tear the matrix up in addition to the leveling action of a blade.

Scarifying and subsoiling (sort of adjustable plows)
Moving loose material (accumulated by dragging the box)
Grading (the rear of the box is a blade)

They are also robust for mounting hooks, hitches, platforms, etc. on. Plus very nice ballast if sized right.

I wonder is all woods attachments weights are incorrect?

Interesting. I have a BX2200 with a Tuff-Line box scrape. The BS is robust, but definitely lighter than typical Woods products. I can stall my tractor, so your success with a smaller tractor makes me wonder. I too primarily use it to maintain my gravel drive (~300ft).

Not that it has anything to do with stalling, but what kind of tires do you sport? Mine are turf and I have to add 80-120 lbs of weights to the front to pull the BS at all.

My tires, too, are turf; I have no front-end ballast other than a loader. I do use 4-wheels when pulling the scraper---and I have the teeth set at the middle setting. Perhaps they dig less than your scraper, or maybe the woods box holds less material. As I said in my original post, the scraper I bought weighs only 285 lbs, well below the 375 lbs Kubota recommends as a max for the 1500 and the 2230.

I too use 4WD when pulling, but usually no FEL, just ballast weights. When I inidcated it stalled, the engine does not stop, but does labor and the tractor slows down then tires spin. All this even without using the teeth.

After reading your posts, I thought that perhaps my child-like enthuiasm for my new toy had warped my initial impression of its performance. Today, I spent two hours finishing my drive, and I can say, with complete sobriety and candor, that the little tractor did not stall or spin its wheels once. I used the BS with the teeth set at medium depth and did some finish work with just the scraper. Both uses resulted in pulling full boxes at times. However, I do think it got a work-out, and the BS requires the tractor's full pulling potential. Except for possible differences in our working matrices, I don' t know why we've had different results.

My driveway has a slight grade to it, but not steep at all. It's been a while since I used the BS on the driveway, so maybe I need to refresh my memory. I do plan to buy bar tires though regardless.
