Kubota L2501
Been looking for a used disc harrow, found a 6.5 Bush Hog disc harrow 16 /20 disc. It痴 older model 1410 but good shape and price...I can稚 find any specs on a 1410. Any opinions on whether it would be too big? Delaware sandy soil, food plots. Thanks for your time.

No.

An L2501 can probably pull a 6'-6" Disc Harrow with 18" diameter pans, but not 20" diameter pans.
An L2501 can certainly pull a 5'-0" Disc Harrow with 18" diameter pans, assuming 4-WD.
Disc Harrows with 18" diameter pans usually require 3-5 passes over a plowed field to smooth it. Worthless for breaking new ground.

A Disc 16/18 with 18" diameter pans has about 37 pounds bearing on each pan.

A 16/20 Disc with 20" diameter pans has 50 - 55 pounds bearing on each pan.

With an L2501, 2,600 pounds bare tractor weight, you will be happier with a PTO-powered roto-tiller.
You lack about 1,000 pounds bare tractor weight for 6'-6" 16/20 Disc Harrow, assuming you have 4-WD.

I SUGGEST MAKING YOUR DELAWARE LOCATION PART OF YOUR T-B-N PROFILE.

In sandy soil a disc will cut in deeper than hard soil but traction is also limited by sand

My Branson 2400 pulls 3pt mount 54 disc with 20 pans on 9 spacing but it has to be in 4WD or it just spins when the disc starts digging in.

For reference 2400 is 1800 lbs + loader mount frame estimate 2500 lbs with loaded R1 tires on heavy Loam soil.

Don't think it will pull it or be effective.Roto tiller will work a lot better on that sized machine.

Thanks for the feedback everyone will keep saving for a rotary tiller, they are pricey

That link is extremely helpful! Thank you.

You welcome. If you lookup the tractor on Kubota's website and then scroll down to the implement section for that tractor, most of them have a link (Land Pride Performance Matched Attachments) to a PDF for the tractor model you are looking at and what it can handle.

I concur. I tilled up 3 odd acres with my L3200 & a 5' king kutter tiller + lots of other jobs. A HST can let you load your engine to the max dynamically without stalling. Plus you dont need to wory about the optimal speed for the disk to work, or run in & run out room.

I still have the 5' KK tiller & use it a bit for horse arena maintnance. Its behind a 6' wide L4060 now. I'm keeping an eye out for a 6' tiller, but the 5' still works well enough it's not much of a priority.

The 2501 will surprise you, I have one and it works real hard for me. As for the weight: tractor, loader plus loaded rear tires the weight is around 3500-4000 lbs. Although I don't own a disk like your talking about, I'd be surprised if the 2501 is not enough tractor, especially in 4x4 low range.

2623-Base weight
845-loader weight
160-HD bucket weight
620-Rimguard weight
4248 total weight(not sure if base weight includes fuel and fluids or is a dry weight)

Still wouldn't want to try and run a 78" disc with it. I don't think you could get to the proper working speed and still be able to pull. A disc needs to be run fairly quickly to work right.(4-6mph)

Here I thought the standard practice on purchasing a new machine was to pick one that could do the tasks anticipated.

I didn't see anything that says he just got the 2501. For all we know he could have had it for awhile and this is a new task.

78 inch tools would be to much but 60 inch works fine. The Land Pride heavy duty box blade with rippers down digs up ground pretty easily and the Land Pride 60 inch brush hog cuts tall grass just fine; if I have a slope to mow then the 2501 slows up a bit but picks up quickly when things flatten out. For most things around a small piece of ground it is enough tractor but of course we never have enough tractor in some situations same with boats, motor homes and trailers as we think of having a bigger more powerful unit!

An economy L will till a couple acres just fine. However you need a small disk or preferably a tiller to do it.

So you are 100% correct, although the "machine" would read "impliment".
