Flat Proofing Why

Why do I keep getting flats??? I am brush hogging blackberry, thorn trees, ruff stuff, is there anything I can do to stop getting flats
 
There are a few thing that can be done. However, like most all things - there will be trade offs. You might be able to get "tougher" tires - tires with higher ply ratings. Some will foam fill their tires - or put "slime" in their tires. Tougher tires and foam filled tires will have a definite impact on ride quality. Slime filled tires will return to haunt you if you ever have to dismount the tire.

I'm sure more will respond with, perhaps, new methods and techniques.
 
R1/ag tires are usually four-ply, although available in six-ply.

R4/industril tires are usually six-ply, also available in eight ply and ten ply.

R4 tires with LINERS installed should be just about puncture proof in your conditions. You can install liners in your existing tires. Liners go between tire and inner tube. I would install new tubes at the same time as liners.

A nearly worn out tractor tire is more subject to punctures than a new tractor tire.


If you are doing commercial mowing consider expensive Kevlar demolition tires.

...don't know if this applies in your case, but some say if you brush hog with blades that are too sharp, you will leave pointed punji stake stalks that can pop tires.
They say bush hogs should have duller blades that smash the stalks and don't leave them as sharp.
 
I could write a dissertation on brush hog flats. For fronts I no longer have an issue. Put aircraft tires and rims on the front from Gensco tire. Rears are more problematic. I've got multiple plugs in 3 of my 4 rear tires. Debating on booting the rears on the Ford or buying new 14 plys from Gensco. They have 14 to 20 ply tires in AG rears. I am so happy with the fronts I'll probably put new rears on the Ford.

I've never tried liners. I would think they would certainly help. JMO but I hate tubes. I can plug and go with tubeless.
 
When mowing the real nasty areas try going backwards.
 
Those liners aren't cheap - 16.9x30 would cost $464 each. I also checked into going with the higher ply tires, but my tire guy said they would require new rims. He said 8 ply would be about as high as I could go with standard rims.

I lower the mower to ground than raise it couple plus inches up than slowly mow heavy thick grass or nasty stuff backwards,than go back lower mower to ground re mow forward.
Be careful tho,when the deck raised up as such the cuttings will be flying everywhere from under.

Oh yes keep and extra eyes looking for fawns,and those nasty paper beehives.
 
Can you install tracks on your tractor? There are kits out there. You may need to lower the air pressure for tightly inflated can not flex as well.
