Have you read Men are from Mars & Women are from Venus? It's just the way we are programmed. Note that you have already been corrected for saying "everytime." That's a typical guy thing. It took me awhile to understand that when my wife spoke in absolutes. She really didn't believe they were absolutes.

Remember tractors, tractors, tractors !!!

RET,

I think anyone who works for a large corporation is VERY familiar with these phrases. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I hear this stuff comes out of Harvard Business School. Do you ever read the Dilbert comic strip?

Good morning Roger,

Your post hit me sideways, on the blind side. The only place I've seen less than cordial discourse has been here, related topics. And it's usually involved the same characters having a tete uh tete.

So I looked up your posts and found out that all your posts this year have been on related topics and on the threads that have involved those same characters.

You need to get out more. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"Out" being into the heartland of TBN. Related topics is sorta kinda like our woods or maybe our pond. Someplace we like to visit wouldn't take our tractor intentionally.

I've been internetting since 96. I've never found a place like TBN for nice people. And what's interesting is the ones I've met face to face have been just as nice if not nicer one on one.

In fact I took the best part of a day to visit Muhammad and the family when I was in Arizona last year visiting my father. We like to go there every fall. And this year we're going an additional nine hours west for the sole purpose of spending some quality time with one our TBN friends.

You'll have to excuse me now. I've got to go to a thread where a westcoaster insinuated that a flat bed pickemup is ugly. Mine is bigger than his and prettier too.

How many of you have actually stepped back a few days later and re-read some of these silly threads"

RET, Good morning! if you reread your posts you can find out what made you lash out at TBN posters.
1. You need a Vacation (even your Boss thinks so)
2. You need a bigger Tractor!

Just Kidding! Have a great vacation and stay away from the gin.

From my personnal experience the safety training is a must in the work place, but it is sometimes corny the way they come across on some of the safety video's etc.Safety is a good thing and a necessity in the work force.

But the other crap, team building, empowerment ,self directed work groups.I have seen millions wasted on thae garbage.
The Harvard business school?
I wondered where the junk was thought up at.

Thanks Junkman,
I had seen that already but I wondered where it came from, good link.

Harv,
You are correct....been spending too much time in 'related topics' lately...probably 'cause that's where I've been spending my $$ the last few months....new generator last year, new pick'em up truck, etc, etc. Shopping for a new metal shop now (~30X40 or so); but I'll resist the urge to ask any questions in related topics.
I'll take your advice from now on...stay away from 'related topics' as much as possible....and don't let the know-it-alls get under my skin.
Gotta go now. Me and my daughter are headed to Home Depot to pick up some lumber for dad-daughter wood working projects this weekend (son ain't interested in power tools yet...but daughter loves it).
Only wish I had your beautiful flatbed truck so I could pick up even more lumber today! My wimpy 04 F150 Supercrew will probably get blown away at the 1st redlight by one of those new Nissan Titans. And, I'll have to lower the tailgate just to carry the preverbial 4X8 sheet of plywood. I told the wife we really needed a F350 flatbed back when we were shopping!!
(Actually, me and wife did spend an afternoon driving a F250 S-crew diesel thumper before I talked myself back down to the more-practical-for-my-needs F150)
have a good one,
roger

Wow, that hit home. I clicked on your profile to see if you might be a co-worker of mine. You don't work for the government also do you?

LOL
Brent,I hope I did not ruin your day. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Brent,I do not work for the Goverment,I work for a big company though.
There is so much money wasted on this crap/games they play in corporate America,it adds not 1 cent of value to the business. But you have to play along when they sign your pay check.

/ Why do Men act like this? #30
You left out one thing. Consultants. In the last department I worked in, me and a co-worker of mine would go to the boss and tell them of a problem and give a possible solution. We would be told that we didn't understand the complexities of the situation. A consultant would be brought in from time to time and they would interview everyone to find out what their jobs were and problems faced. When the consultant went to the boss with their findings the boss was ecstatic. Wow what insight you have, we need to hire you full time! I guess the problem was solved in a round about way, but gees we could have saved them $200K by listening to the peons!

Unfortunately, seems like everytime I log into this forum to learn a little more about this 'hobby', more often than not all I get is a bunch of overblown testosterone comments from folks who are attempting to prove how smart they are (clue: 99% of the time this reveals your real ignorance). Why don't we all learn from the ultimate gentleman BIRD who never gives his opinion with first stating " this is only my opinion".

Have to tell you...and I just started reading this thread so bear with me if it has already been said...

You sure sound like one of the guys to me!

RET:

I gentlemanly, politely disagree with you, RET in the most humble way I can.

Of all the forums I visit, this one is the most polite. Sorry, that you see the forum in this way, but I do see it differently.

However, I will certainly try harder to be especially polite when stating my humble opinion.

my apologies,
dwight

I wouldn't go that far!

Related Topics is kinda sorta like the cafe if TBN is the town.

It's where we get to rub elbows, talk shop, rub each other write or wrong, and go back to work.

Heck, even Bird hangs out here more'n he needs too, mostly for grins I bet. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I get the feeling almost everyone from top to bottom feels this way, but no one wants to be the first to stand up and say it. There is a common source of all this nonsense because when you talk to people who work for different corps they have all heard the exact same thing. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Kind of scary.

Not too many workers in my ranks have been afraid to voice there opinions (the operators) the people that do the wrench turning and run the process. It generally falls on deaf ears when anything is said,we tell them it is is a bunch of crap, and laugh about it ,but you go ahead and do it,because they are the ones in charge and they sign the paychecks. It is not as bad at my location since we have been divested and the same corporate giant does not now own us,when we were under the "big umbrella" it was always something new to do. Amazing.

Corporate America /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I have worked for the same company for 25 years. Recently the board hired a new CEO from the outside, all others have been home grown or related to the founders of the company. Since the new guy came in he has started lay offs, 1st for our company, closed offices another first. Our 401K plan, the dollar for dollar company match for the first 4% each pay check is now held off for 15 months and then paid in one payment, we now loose all the interest on the 4% match, if you put in the max of $13K that is a few $$. Stock options for bonuses are gone, stock matching programs are gone, we are now paying a greater share of our health coverage, raises are in the 0-4% range. We went from 26 pay checks to 24 per year. You would think from reading this that we are not making any profits and this guy is trying to save the company. WRONG, we have made a profit for our share holders every year!

I just hope the board realizes this guy has screwed the 12,000 employees of the company. Then again, look at the poor people that worked for Enron!

Corporate life S*cks!

Regarding 401K plans

Does your company offer one?
Do they match part of your contribution?
If so, how much? do they pay it each pay check or make you wait? My company says we are one of the few to match and pay each check. I think it is a bunch of you know what. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Thanks for your ear /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The place my wife works has a 401K. The % is the same as yours. It's held out of each paycheck but I think it's only paid in once per quarter.

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifThe CFO at the company my youngest daughter works for decided a couple of weeks before Christmas to change from paying every two weeks to the twice a month plan (something to do with their budget and the extra day in a leap year /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif). My daughter was telling me about it because it meant that she had to work some long hours during that last week of the year changing all the personnel records in their computer system. I told her it sounded as if her CFO lost his mind. But within a week of all the employees learning of the new plan, and a near revolt, the CEO changed it back /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, which pleased everyone, including my daughter, even though it meant long hours for another week to get everything changed back in the computer again. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Bird,

For many years my Dad worked for a county sheriffs office in Texas and he got paid 12 checks a year. Got to work 6 days a week too. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
