I'm so tired of grabbing a Bick or Scripto butane lighter to light the fireplace, only to find the dang thing has plenty of fuel, but won't light worth a flip.

Who makes a good one? Preferably one that's refillable. I'd rather buy once cry once and have a quality lighter I don't have to cuss each time.

Not practical if you want to light a candle but great for the fireplace. It's made by Mr Torch. Tractor Supply had them on closeout for a couple bucks. I bought one and liked it so much I ran back and bought another for the camper.

I’ve had good luck with gas station cigarette lighters. I’m not a smoker but I carry one all the time and they pretty much always work. I use a propane torch in the wood stove.

for the fireplace, burn barrel and the like I use a self lighting mapp gas torch. No sense in dealing with a little piddly flame off the lighter. Get it hot and get it lit.

Ding...ding...ding! I think we have a winner. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Perfect solution.

Not Butane but I like my Zippo... it fit's conveniently into my watch pocket so that it's always within reach as I'm kneeling down to light the stove, and stays lit while you set it down to reach for another pice of kindling. While not really windproof as claimed, it does work better than a butane when standing outside trying to warm your key up to thaw the lock so that you can get back into your truck. (Not quite so important, now that I have remotes for both trucks.) The drawback is that you need to fill it every few days whether you use it or not.

That was my gripe with the zippo and why I quite using it.

I always liked the crack pipe lighters at the gas stations but have had very little luck with them after a refill.

I use those small propane lighters you get at the grocery store check out. I light my burn barrel with them. Don't like reaching down into my burn barrel with anything that's on fire. Never know what might happen. I roll up a single chunk of paper towel - light it and throw into the burn barrel.

That’s exactly what I use

My problems with Zippo's...fluid would leak and burn my leg. Couldn't beat that flame though. Bic's were fine until the flames got wimpy.

I remember when you could adjust the flame on BIC's.

Maybe that should go in one of the "You know that you're getting old" threads.

This year I've been lighting fires in my stove the old fashioned way... with a wooden match.

On my wood stove we have a Harbor Freight butane torch, currently one of the old orange ones with the knob on top that I'm sure isn't OSHA approved... anyway, the newer black ones aren't too bad either, but neither are the $5 generic "crack torches" from the gas station or grocery store checkout. They're all hit or miss, I have 4 of the old orange HFT torches, two still work, two leak. Heck, I even have a couple of the older black self igniting pencil torches floating around. I might be a pyro or just a collector of nifty stuff? hoarder? not sure, I'm trying to get better at accumulating...
