For the little bit used around here I just use clear highway fuel. The difference in price is minimal and worth the bother. 4 or 5 of the five gallon jugs stored in a metal cabinet does just fine.
What I have run into lately in Tennessee is the farm stores refusing to sell it to you unless you have tax exempt status. Never ever remember that being requirement to purchase "off-road" diesel for "off-road" equipment.
Do you have a farmer's Co-Op near you? I am in western TN and many of the Co-Ops here have off-road pumps. If you don't have tax-exempt status: they will charge you a 7% sales tax (per TN law). With todays fuel prices the 7% wipes out most of your savings vs paying regular road fuel price.
Hmmm.. I always though off road diesel was only as far away as your heating tank.
