What\'s that smell?

Are there any cedar tree expert out there? I have a number of cedars around the property and they all smell good, like cedars. EXCEPT ONE! It smells like a dead animal and it is between the carport and house with the side walk passing by. I have checked it out completely and it is the tree and not the ground. No dead animal in the tree. The tree is not near the septic system. It looks healthy. Any ideas. Here is a pic of the offending tree.

Whew..for a second there I thought you smelt my cooking. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gifWonder if a tree or a bush just started to bud w/in the last day or so...have you notice any insects around this smell.

No insects. I have been smelling this odor for about 4-6 months. But is seems to be getting stronger!

If it's been going on for 4 - 6 months, and it's getting stronger, think what it could be like in July or August!!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I'd say cut it down and plant a tree with some shade for your carport that doesn't have a roof /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

Cutting it down is not an option! I will hang a glade plugin on it and spray it with Fabreeze first!

Oh, O.K. Sorry, I didn't realize that it was a special tree. We have one of those also. My son planted a little pine twig he got in school in our back yard. Thought for sure the thing would be dead in a month. That was 16 years ago, and it's the largest and best tree in our yard!

I have a large evergreen that stinks and smells similar to CAT URINE. I moved it about 100' from the house. It is called a "Weeping Tolleson Juniper" according to the tree guy who planted it.

My two son's planted these two cedars when we moved in. My way of easing them into moving. They were scared to move. Now they wonder why we did not move sooner!

Called a couple of tree nurseries this am and found a lady that seems to know her stuff. She said it is a fungus caused by too much water from the rains we have been having for the past few months (it has rained atleast one day a week since Nov. sometimes more.) She said to stop by and she would mix me up a pint of stuff to spray on it and I would have to repeat it in a month.
