What size Disc Mower

I need to find a way to cut the grass on the inside of a 5 acre pond dam, and I am considering a disc type hay cutter. I have a 4x4 JD 4320 with 40hp at the PTO. More than PTO hp, I am concerned about the weight hanging off the side of the fairly small tractor. My rear tires are loaded, and I have a FEL. I would estimate that the total tractor weight is around 5,500 lbs. What you think about the disc cutter, and what maximum length do you think my 4320 will safely handle?

I have no experience what so ever about these disc mowers from Kuhn. I believe your machine is rated at 48 HP at the PTO.

instead of a heavy disc mower get a belt driven 3 pt sickle bar mower. It will lay right over the bank avaialble in 9 ft bars aswell. Ken Sweet Might be able to fix you up. sweettractors .com

Agree. I recommend considering 3ph sickle bar also. Many/most cut at steep angles(up and down), lighter weight, fast cut especially if double acting, probably less money.
I started out looking for disc mower about 5 yrs ago and ended up with sickle bar after shopping around and haven't regretted it one bit. I use it for along road, edge of fields, and along the creek.
