What material for ford 1700 subframe?

I'm getting ready to fab up a subframe for my Ford 1700 / LW-6 backhoe. Thinking about 2x2 or 2x3 tubing with 5/16 wall. Seen some where it was flat plate but tubing might weld better.

Well the square tubing didn't pan out, limited supply, have to buy full sticks ect. But I did find a stick of 3x4 angle 1/2 inch thick. Thinking that might work better any way.

4" C channel is what mine is made of if I remember correctly.

On the pictures I saw on the Ford 758 bh frame it looked to be 4 x 2 channel with some boxing near the axle. Looks to be 3/16 to 1/4 thick material. The 4 inch is vertical X 2 horizontal. Any where close to yours?

Here's some pics and info for the Ford #8401 Sub Frame. This frame is supposed to fit Ford 1320,1520,1720, & 1920 models. Not sure if 1700 is the same but probably similar. This frame is on a Woods BH750-3 I bought and adapted to fit my tractor. It is made of C Channel but it has several sections of flat steel welded in the C to box it in for strength.

Measured the channel on mine and it's 5"x1.75" x 3/16". The first 3'of the frame is boxed. (End closest to the hoe.) If you do a search I posted a bunch of pics a while back.

Thanks for the pics and information. Have a bit more to think about before I buy any more steel. Quite a bit of info in just a few posts.
