My great uncle has a deck over trailer he wants to sell. It is 18' long, no dove tail, 12k gross, like new, kept under a roof its whole life, and has ramps of course. Since it does not have a dove tail is that going to hurt the value? I am thinking start out at $3500 on it. What do you guys think?

I don't think no dovetail will hurt the price much but will limit the number of potential buyers pretty drastically. Asking 3500 isn't bad, but you will ultimately need to come down a little I think. I guess it really depends on manufacturer/options/quality of build, but I think you can get a new lower end trailer for that close to that price around here anyway.

Does it at least have ramps?

Also, how are the tires? They are such a huge expense and the biggest wear item, that is the first thing I always look at. Paint and asthetics mean much less to me personally.

If the tires are over 6 years old your looking at about $600 or more to replace them with a quality set (4 + spare).
This is asking $3200 -

and it's 19', 12K and has been sitting on the DC CL for weeks.

That would be a deal around here.

$3600 is what a new one cost here or less.

I'd say 2k would be top of the mark around here. Thats sight unseen of course.....

I think a 12k deckover without dove is going to hurt big time IMO. It either needs a really long (and heavy) ramp, or be very limited on what you can load.

Location is a big deal, I bought a LoadTrail, 6 ton, dovetail, with good tires, and ramps, at an estate auction earlier this year for $2,000.00. It was in good shape and I new the former owner and new how he used it and cared for it or I would not have bid as much as I did.

Yes it has ramps. I can't remember the brand, it may be load trail. I did not pay much attention to the tires. There was a wasps nest close to the trailer so I didnnot hang around long. I am going to guess and say the only thing wrong with the tires would be the age. He bought it primarily to haul hay on. Maybe that it why it is a flat deck. It has a 8" channel frame, so I guess it is pretty heavy. That would make the payload low.

I looked last night and found this Appalachian trailer that is similar but has dovetail. http://www.appalachiantrailers.com/equipment_trailers/sd_deckover_equipment-trailers_10k-12k.php

I have a feeling it may be a tough sell. It looks as good or better than the one Newberry posted.
