Welding Web Down?

Uh oh... this doesn't sound good. I didn't frequent the site much but it was extremely informative.

I found this on HVAC-talk website. They had been down too.
"HTalk was sold to Endeavor along with dozens of other forums in the mechanical industry in December. All of these sites were pushed over to the new owners host except the VB sites such as us and Welding Web. Our database was on AWS still owned by our old owner Informa. A Informa tech thought all the sites were gone so he deleted HTalk and the AWS database. That unfortunate act is what caused all this.

I am not sure where they found a copy of the database but they did and it took a while to find it. My thoughts were that AWS had a backup and gave it to us. Anyway, our new owner may not have the ability to build a VB site on their host. They also thought it would be a good idea to upgrade. That's another unfortunate act... When the company VBulletin updated the database to the newest version a lot of things broke. We knew this would happen and did not want to upgrade, we told them but was out of our hands."
Reading a little about Endeavor it seems they bought a large number of specialty industry advertising-based websites to merge into what is in the background, likely a single master site. But these VB-based forums don't fit. Perhaps Endeavor's other sites are advertising-only with no forums at all.

So what we have now is 'the Wikipedia of welding' destroyed.

I think the only hope is to persuade some other VB host to buy the rights and whatever is left of AWS backup to bring it back up. Hopefully there's enough advertising in the welding world to make this work.

Muhammad (our host here) ... are you interested?

I learned more about welding on WW in 3 years than 55 years welding on the farm.

I don’t know anything about the political thread. Was pretty certain I wouldn’t like it.

Yeah, although I didn't have enough needs to spend more time on WW, if I had known it would be gone, I sure would have.

It seems I can still access all my WW photos on Google images.

Enjoy the photos without having to read the text. Sort of like Playboy in reverse.

Similar here. After I started here with the orchard and bought old equipment - tractor and implements - it was clear I needed to begin welding. No time for a class, nobody to follow around and learn from like I did with carpentry, finance, lots of life skills. Studying what others were told on WW got me off to a good start.
