Warning for all

Two examples. My business was broken into in 1982, $2500 loss, no insurance on contents. Weeks went by, police had no leads. Wife and I went to local pawn shop and I identified one item which I verified by having the box same serial #.
Stupidly, I paid pawn fee, but got guys name. I had to go to court a few times, guy wouldn't show, etc. (He was out on bail).
Finally got call from court DA, I didn't have to appear, guy pled guilty.
I then call court...judge ordered him to pay me back. $10/month...two years probation.
So with much hassle I get $240! That's it!
Guy skips town.
Second example recently good friend, a landscaper, one trailer gets cleaned out.
He had insurance...but $25k loss he gets depreciated value, so $2k. Police finally catch them, but they had sold all his stuff. Police raid their place and they had basically nothing...no one had a job. They never got an actual confession. So basically he was out $23k+trailer damage.

I am Rural but live on the highway system. Several reports of strangers casing homes in the area. Same guys, often seen in different vehicles. They will knock on the door and inquire if So & So lives here? We just keep an eye cocked as well as the gun and we warn the other neighbors.

I usually don't answer the door when suspicious people knock, but will grab a gun..

I've been pretty lucky through the years. Only come up missing some cans of gas. I pretty much knew who was taking them. But when that red gas can with diesel fuel came up missing it all stopped. I saw the kid I figured was taking them a few days later, he commented how his motorcycle wasn't running very good. I said, "Yah, diesel running through a gas engine will do that".

We had a creeper in my neighborhood the other day. Live on a paved road but it's a dead end street with 6 houses. Was out on the phone wondering around my yard checking trees. Happened to look towards the street and saw a guy kneeling, screwing with a bag

Watched him for a while and he just sat there. Finally went and got a neighbor and my gun, and we walked down and checked on the guy. He was sitting by the ditch at this point.

Guy said he was tired and was just resting for a bit. The bag, was a large bag of pipe tobacco. Guy was just sitting there rolling cigarettes, then smoking them as fast as he could roll them.

Finally after everyone on the street watching him for over an hour, (he had been sitting there for 1.5 hours)we called the cops and had them come check on him. Cops showed up after dark, guy was still sitting there in the same spot. Told the cops one minute he was just taking a break, was out on a walk and got tired. After a bit he told the cop he was there to watch a sunset, which was BS since he was surrounded by large trees that blocked the view. And if he was there to watch the sunset, why was he still there after dark.

Cops told him he needed to wander on home which was on a street about 2/10 of a mile away and since he didn't have any warrants and was on the road right of way, they couldn't do anything. Cops gave him about ten minutes then went and check to see if he was headed that way.

On insurance too often here I get very aggravate when people say they coverage they bought was much less than other coverage and the same. $2,000 for over $20,000 of equipment, wrong insurance maybe low price but wrong coverage. You want replacement coverage period. Does not cost more. Also some replacement does not pay for replacement unless you really replace it. To me sneaky but must be legal. State Farm use to be that way here.

I like odd switches on keyed equipment like a safety switch that is not adjust just right. Of course you never leave keys in them.

Also have single drive into our house and land with it but wide open due to being fields and same with our other farm land. But no back way out unless on atv or foot.

A drone can easy find the hidden buildings.

House burnt but barn still there..fire fighters. Not all are honest. Few miles from here NC just arrested about a dozen for setting fires and stealing I think. But also know a person who sold tractors and equipment and then some time later he would have it stolen to sell on the black market. He would then sell another to replace the one stolen for it had insurance on it. Slap on the wrist when he was caught big time red handed.

Thieves have become more brazen because punishment is non existent or lacking any deterrent teeth. I believe they should lose hands to begin with. If caught a 3rd time should have " Thief" branded on their forehead. Bring back "Hard Labor" in the jails and prisons and close the revolving doors.

Doofy I do agree the legal system does little if anything in such. Disgusting. I am in middle of was legal issue with a contractor. He is a fraud. But the police have done NOTHING and now it is not criminal as he did repay part of the money he stole. The police told me if the person were convicted under criminal law they probably will order him to pay me but if he does not, not likely the court will come back and punish him for not doing so...what a fraud the legal system in some areas...

With Google Earth being so simple to use, nothing is remote anymore. Snip

My brother caught a fishing party who had invited themselves to use our pond. He asked how they knew the pond was even there. The answer was the internet.

When we moved to our current place, there was an alarm system - not connected to a service (call 911 and likely it'll take cops 15 minutes to get here anyways), but touchy and really loud. I learned they nobody around here pays attention to noises nearby when the alarm went off for about 10 minutes once... It was loud enough to hear half a mile away, but no reaction.

Any more, nothing here is locked. Come and get it.
