The larger the boom, the fewer passes you have to make. But, if a "large" sprayer is not a convenient choice, there's no reason a smaller unit won't work well. A 55gal. tank would just have to be filled twice.
Glyphos is a generic Round-up. The concentrate I get comes in 2 1/2gal containers and is applied at 2 qts/acre. I don't think it matters how much water you mix it in, as long as you lay down about 2 qts./acre.
I am no pro at this, but I generally mix the chemical in plenty of water, then make at least two overlaping and/or crisscross patterns to help avoid misses. A little more time consuming, but it corrects for my poor driving.

Fimco 60 gal (55?) for me - 3-section, fold-up booms. Love it.

I thought I wanted boomless - can spray through fences / around trees. After some thought and use, prefer the boom model - for reasons others have listed.

Keep the booms lubed (WD-40) and you can go through gates or between trees (slowly) and have 'em pop back out.

Get out the utility knife, clamps, valves -- hook up a wand for spot spray.

DEFINITELY, clean out the pump before storage. I hooked up a "quick-detach" gizmo so I don't have to wrestle with the hoses and barbs. Now, it's a breeze to "flush with oil" before storage (i.e., between each use).

Be sure to get the book(s) - mine has excellent directions on how to determine application rates.

Happy defoliating!

Thanks for info guys.

Looks as if I will go with a Demco model. There are two dealers within 50 miles of me.

What type of price should I be expecting on a 55 or 85 gallon unit?

I recently ordered a Hardi 55 gallon 3 point sprayer with a 14 ft boom and diaphram pump. To give you some idea of price, I paid 1590.00 with a hand sprayer and 25 ft of hose.

I expect to have it later this week if you have any specific questions.

Holy Bejesus!

I thought it would be about $500-$600.

I am looking at getting a 2 or 3 bottom plow and a 2 row planter as well.

My hobbies are getting more expensive everyday!!!
