The larger the boom, the fewer passes you have to make. But, if a "large" sprayer is not a convenient choice, there's no reason a smaller unit won't work well. A 55gal. tank would just have to be filled twice.
Glyphos is a generic Round-up. The concentrate I get comes in 2 1/2gal containers and is applied at 2 qts/acre. I don't think it matters how much water you mix it in, as long as you lay down about 2 qts./acre.
I am no pro at this, but I generally mix the chemical in plenty of water, then make at least two overlaping and/or crisscross patterns to help avoid misses. A little more time consuming, but it corrects for my poor driving.
