Eddie, I have to agree with you about them. Before them it was Sears and Kmart..Walmart just wanted to grow, but they do force others out of business..The economy is not doing very well either...So walmart might just fall to it's own forces?? I really hate the Doorgreeters are being removed, they were mostly retired here and could use the extra income. I guess ,Now they will have to Hire a Security person at the door.

jonyyuma while we live relative close I think to say that Wal-Mart forces other out of business is just a miss understanding for the facts.

In our area WM staff have not shown up at any business and "forced" them out of business.

While some stores have closed over the past 35-40 years I think 100% of them closed because they failed to meet the need of their customers at some level. Price was a factor but but was location, aging owners with no family to follow, technology changing, etc

In the USA that is just the way it works. Whle there is social welfare for a few businesses most of us have to close our doors when we can not meet the needs of our customers.

Like we all know WM and JD will be replaced someday when they fail to address the needs of their customers as well as someone else is willing to do.

A loss of customers is the real reason businesses close.

In just the 20 years we have been in business we have had to evolve from selling computers and service to developing and selling software to keep our doors open because Gateway, Dell, etc found a better way to deliver better hardware values. While in the software industry we have had to change our focus a couple times already due to changing marketing forces and success is still not a sure thing long term without more focus changes in the future.

Mainly Sam Walton removed waste out of the supply chain. Interstates can "kill" small hotels located on the old routes but we can not say interstate highways are BAD just because of someone found themself at the wrong place at the wrong time.

WM is not full of China goods because they are evil. WM is full of China goods because of the demands of the evil customers.

The same goes for HF too. :)

I am looking at tractor tires from India because the reseller said they were the best value that he has to offer.

We really need to look at who is spending the money more than who is selling the goods to find fault in my view.

I'm with Gale and Eddie on this one. As far as the greeters, sad, but we still have them at our airports (TSA):D Where else? Oh yeah, Church:thumbsup:

Walmart likely hires more employees than the 10 or 15 businesses that "they" supposedly put out of business. The average SuperCenter has 300+ employees. Also the tax revenue paid by Walmart (sales taxes) are more than the "closed" stores combined easily. (Some property taxes are differed, or not charged for a negotiated term in some towns, as a way to get Walmart to move in)

Allot of what Walmart sells, you can buy elsewhere, but hard to touch their buying power. Some things are made just for Walmart.
If folks don't want to shop at Walmart, Don't. Walmart will be here along time, even Kmart is still in business, just on a smaller scale.

What other "evil" chain stores are there that no one wants to shop at? BestBuy, Staples, Kroger?

Western, You are right ...we bring the Walmarts of the world on ourselves...the power of price and it has driven the mom and pop businesses out of business but we did it to ourselves to save some money and China and other countries are laughing ...Yes, I buy some few things from Walmart but we go out of our way to avoid them and shop at our local grocery, tire store and the one hardware store that is left.

We that know small businesses in town should try to support them? Another thing you can do to help the locals is to pay by cash or check. We small businesses do not get the break of CC fees that WM expects to get.

Say you have a $1500 auto repair bill you can leave about $45 more money in their pocket by paying by check vs CC assuming a 3% fee rate. Picking a $3000 implement you can leave them $90 more profit by writing a check.

Never use a CC unless requested with small businesses due to the CC fees that come off the top of the gross and net income if any. If you do not like WM get $100 cash back at each purchase. :D

Brin, I shop at Walmart for groceries and other things I need, I don't "NOT" shop at any place in particular unless I have a customer related issue with them. Mostly I shop as you I guess, Tires I can get cheaper at a "chain" tire store:D If I need a wider range of hardware I go to Lowes or HD "chain" stores.

I often can find better produce/ fruit at a smaller grocer, whether a Chain brand or not.

I shop where I can save $$ on most things, higher end stuff I shop the internet. I do know that almost anywhere I shop, they have "stuff" made in China or somewhere else, so not unique to wally world. I wont let emotion cause me to spend more money than I have too on consumable items.

Yep I do the same thing...I like most folks have to shop price but I always try to let the local mom & pop get the business but often the price drives me to the chain stores....I hate that though but that is life and yes products from China and elsewhere cannot be avoided now that our mfg. base has gone.

Our county has one Walmart and we might get another one. The second one has been fought over for years because of the Walmart Haters. Our town will not loose a single business because of Walmart. Walmart will not compete with our local businesses at all. When we need something we have to go to the one Walmart in the county or more likely we have to go out of county. This means the county looses tax revenue which is just STUPID. But the county Walmart Haters don't understand this simple fact.

What is funny is that the new Walmart is very close to two towns that refuse to have a Walmart in their city limits. Currently the people in those town go to another county to shop at Walmart or Target. Now they will come to our county so we can harvest their taxes.

A Lowes was built a few years ago. Not many people complained about Lowes driving out businesses like the small, privately owned Sears franchise or the hardware store. I don't know what happened to the guy that ran the Sears store he just disappeared. The family that ran the hardware store now sells flowers and is doing fine. Their old hardware store now sells Italian food and has the best pizza I have ever eaten.

I still don't get it but we have TWO dollar stores in town, maybe 1/4 mile apart. They are from different companies but I find it odd that two stores fighting over the same market can survive. We go to both because it is more convenient and getting to a Target or Walmart is a 30 minute trip.

What has really killed business in our county is the local government and the bad economy. Walmart has brought needed jobs and tax revenue.

Later,
Dan

I hate to say it also but if chinamart left here it would hurt probably worse than it did when it first got here. They pushed some of the mom and pops out of business that were teetering anyway and caused property taxes to go thru the roof and stay that way for adjacent business.

I am not sticking up for them by any means but they employ a lot of people even if it is mostly part timers. We have only 4-5 big employers close and this is a big one.

Its more sad commentary of cheap crap selling because people are out of money, its not they demand better quality they want cheap, I rarely shop there if I can help it.

I usually only buy meat there because they have a lot out to chose from that and I am picky on what cuts I use price is never my criteria on that. fwtw
