Door greeter is alive and well @ our Wal Mart. I know because he flirts with my wife and I don't like it.

Was this post started based on an assumption, or started as a way to get another Walmart thread going? :) Walmart has not eliminated greeters, they致e just moved them back by the registers. I think they may call them something different too.

I started the thread because I happen to visit 4 different Walmarts pretty regularly and talked to a couple of the greeters that I've known for at least 6 years when they were moved from the door back to stand by the produce section. Then they were all gone for a couple of days and I asked a cashier and she said they were moved to other jobs.

Since then, one greeter, in his 80s, that I've known for more than 6 years has come back to work, but standing back by the produce department instead of near the door. And yesterday, in another Walmart, there was a "greeter" that I've never seen before by the front door.

A greeter I've known for 6 years told me moving them back was a nationwide change that even the store managers dislike. And they hope enough customers will complain that top management changes back.

Walmart employees are one reason we have Obamacare and food stamps.

I have no idea what you mean or what makes you think that. I do know that one of the greeters told me a long time ago that the only reason he keeps the job is because of the excellent health insurance Walmart provides and his wife has some serious health problems.

I wonder about the comments in this thread about Dollar General. We have a couple of them nearby; very small stores and I've not seen much worth buying in them so we almost never go in one. My wife likes the Dollar Tree store in the area. And we have one Family Dollar store that we've been in one time only.

Is Dollar General putting in some bigger stores in some areas?

My inlaws hate walmart, but LOVE Target and Kmart.. I try to tell them, but they dont (want to) understand that either of those companies would love to be as big at Walmart.. And if they were as big as walmart you could just substitute "Target" or "Kmart" every place someone used 'walmart' here and it would fit just perfectly.

years ago the Kmarts are probably ran Roses/worlworths/etc out of business..

Brian

We have a big, relatively new Target super center in the area, and it appears to do a good business, and I'm glad to see that. However, we've never had any luck there. I got the sorriest tamales I've ever seen there, and one day they had some extra high priced cantaloupes; supposedly better, sweeter, etc. than their regular priced ones that were only a little higher than Walmart prices, so I bought one of their super duper cantaloupes and it was about as bad as any I ever got.

And when we moved to Navarro County, Corsicana had a K-Mart Super Center and only an old fashioned small Walmart; not super center. And I think the K-Mart employees put that place out of business. Their cash registers routinely rang up higher prices than the prices posted and it seemed everyone knew about it, reported it, etc., but it didn't change anything. Just to see if it was as I'd been told, I bought a package of sliced cheese that rang up a dollar higher than the posted price. I told the cashier about it and she deducted the dollar. A week later I went in and bought another package of the same cheese, and sure enough it still rang up a dollar more than the posted price. In other words, they'd correct it, if you caught it, but they didn't change their registers. Corsicana also had a big K-Mart distribution center that I think was the biggest employer in town and they shut it down, too.

Now if Walmart ever gets as bad as what I've seen at Target and K-Mart, I'll be looking for another place to shop, too. Or if Target ever gets competitive on prices and quality of products, I'll start shopping there.

It depends on your definition of the word "bigger."

The Dollar General stores in the Nashville area tend to be less than the size of the Walmart Stores before they went super size. I'd say their store size has been going upwards in recent years compared to the more economical store size they used to stick with.

We used to have a convenient sized Kroger that was easy to find whatever you needed without having to walk all over creation. Then they tore it down and built a huge store. I quit shopping there.

Wouldn't be that? but good excuse for government subterfuge, like "we'll know whats in it once we pass it" ( Nancy Pelosi) I haven't read the bill, dont know who has had the time to read that monstrosity, but I haven't heard "Walmart" employees" mention by any networks or commentators.

Men flirt with my wife all the time and I don't like it either, so when I am with her, I sometimes follow her through a store at a distance, allowing them enough time to make their attempt, then I walk up to her and kiss her. Seeing their expression change as I do that is priceless.

If you are paying 3%, you are getting hosed. We are paying 1.7%, and we are a very small biz. Most small business people I know would rather take a CC than a personal check. And with our CC card setup, the cash is in the bank, within minutes. I know a couple of folks who don't take cards or checks, but one I know has been avoiding a old child support levy from the FOC. The others are probably avoiding the tax man.

Since my checks are known to be good locally when I give them an option often they say check please but not always. We do have some that do not take cash if in bills greater than $20.

Walmart got it's start with smaller stores serving areas that didn't have department stores, and with an emphasis on american products. They didn't start out with the megastores they build today. They created a market and demand for themselves. I see dollar general following the early WM strategy.
