Walmart - End of an Era

Gale, yes we live 'close', and I did not say I don't shop at walmart...We buy some groceries there..Natural shopper attrition might be the term..We do have three different Dollar stores in our small town...Most chains have moved here to check out our market and money...I don't shop at K-mart since they re-orged and closed most of the stores. They just don't seem to have what i am buying?

I am curious about the India tractor tires? Makes me wonder about their rubber compounds..I know the Chinese tractor had some sad looking rubber on them, when I was looking three years ago....I know that the mahindra tractors here had us rubber brands on them, didn't check the origins...But if you need auto tires you really need to look at the sidewall, some of them are surprising builders?I am looking at TITAN tires next, my turfs were made by them and they are reopening a plant at Union city, tn..

Was this post started based on an assumption, or started as a way to get another Walmart thread going? :) Walmart has not eliminated greeters, they’ve just moved them back by the registers. I think they may call them something different too.

Is your Wallmart a super center?
The super center I went in today in Brenham TX did not have a greeter and I asked the first employee I saw if they eliminated Greeters, and she said yes.

Went to Walmart on Sat, & inside the front door sat a greeter on a stool.

Greeter said, "Let me have 10 cents for the children".

Turned out not to be the usual Walmart greeter, but rather a March of Dimes person asking for money (demanding?).

"Let me have 10 cents for the children" ... I wouldn't think that would be the best approach.

This guy looked more to me like a guy who, when his shift ends, trips & the dimes accidentally fall into his pocket ... similar to the way Captain Schettino tripped & fell into that lifeboat.

Walmart employees are one reason we have Obamacare and food stamps.

Name one business that has grown that didn't force another out of business in the free market? Either do better or go away. Its what works and how it should be.

Eddie

My inlaws hate walmart, but LOVE Target and Kmart.. I try to tell them, but they dont (want to) understand that either of those companies would love to be as big at Walmart.. And if they were as big as walmart you could just substitute "Target" or "Kmart" every place someone used 'walmart' here and it would fit just perfectly.

years ago the Kmarts are probably ran Roses/worlworths/etc out of business..

The disdain for Walmart comes from multiple points. 1 single store ultimately forcing the closure of multiple mom&pops is just part of it. Their reputation for dictating to manufacturers a cheaper product is another.

I've been getting kinda grossed out by Sam's Club lately. Their Stouffer's lasagna, I promise you, is not as good as the regular Stouffer's that we might go to Meijer or Kroger for. Their chicken breasts are gigantic, but try slicing them up for a quick pan of fried rice and you quickly find out how saturated they are with water.

You have to be on your toes with any retailer, but it seems like you REALLY have to be with them.

We that know small businesses in town should try to support them? Another thing you can do to help the locals is to pay by cash or check. We small businesses do not get the break of CC fees that WM expects to get.

Say you have a $1500 auto repair bill you can leave about $45 more money in their pocket by paying by check vs CC assuming a 3% fee rate. Picking a $3000 implement you can leave them $90 more profit by writing a check.

Never use a CC unless requested with small businesses due to the CC fees that come off the top of the gross and net income if any. If you do not like WM get $100 cash back at each purchase. :D

If you are paying 3%, you are getting hosed. We are paying 1.7%, and we are a very small biz. Most small business people I know would rather take a CC than a personal check. And with our CC card setup, the cash is in the bank, within minutes. I know a couple of folks who don't take cards or checks, but one I know has been avoiding a old child support levy from the FOC. The others are probably avoiding the tax man.
