Just another reason to not shop there. Might as well mail your money out of the country

The saying "killed off main street" is true in some areas. Where I live they said the same thing each time a major retailer built here. Sears, Kmart, Fred Meyer (a regional chain), and Costco. Sears was a anchor store for the mall built in 1981. A slight down turn in the local shops happened. The old owners of those shops retired and sold out. New buyers opened in those same spots and most are still selling. The old retailers had been loosing out for years because people had been traveling 75 to 100 miles to buy what they wanted. The local owners kept selling the same old tired crap. Downtown today has Fitness centers, Restaurants, antique stores and Retail shops that carry what people want. Professional office space is at a premium.
The Sears store is closing in April. They are not stocking what people want to buy. They are not closing the K-Mart and some Sears associates are being transfered there. The soon to be vacated Sears space has already been leased to new retailers.
Each town has it's own set of problems. We have ours.

Not an expression of an opinion, just an observation. Walmart has had an even bigger impact on middlemen and wholesale warehouses. Walmart negotiates their own deal with the suppliers. The story of Vlassic Pickles is interesting.

I rarely go to wallyworld, so haven't noticed yet. They were not allowed to stop shoplifters anyways, some got fired for trying.

The only thing I buy at Walmart is Mobil Turbo Diesel Truck oil

Our little Walfart never really had a greeter, They had a few but they actually worked at sweeping and other tasks not like the super walmart. I have a friend that actually sited his garden center right across from the Walmart here and is doing good. He sells gardening supplies and his wife sells gifts. He buys locally made and offered products and tock alot of cataloged items and practical stuff you cant get at Wally world. So far his strategy has worked out well. One thing I do see wrong with Walmart lately is the lack of professionalism from their truck drivers. I remember as a kid seeing the Walmart own International Eagles obeying every rule, not speeding or even broken down.

THe last year or so Ive seen them with crude drivers cutting folk off, missing tail lights, ragged trailers, and just the opposite of what I remember. I have a friend that drives for them and has since the 80s. He said they arent hiring truck drivers like they used to. I was heading down the road comming home frm work and at an intersection there was a WM truck sitting at the stop sign when i got nearly there he took off in front of me quick enough that in the turn he drug his aerodynamic kit off on the pavement.

I had to brake hard and stopped and got the grund effect. What got me was there wasnt a car or anything else be hind me. I took off and caught him 9 miles away here in town and I blocked him in and got te truck number.

I think Dollar General is the new walmart. Smaller stores in smaller communities but great if you just need a few consumables and don't feel like like walking a mile in a store to get them

This doesn't surprise me because there are multiple reports scattered across the internet, about Walmart treating employees badly. Walmart does whatever is in Walmart's best interest, and I no longer shop there if I can absolutely help it.

For that matter, I'd love nothing better than to see Walmart close it's doors and fade into history forever, because they single-handedly killed off Main Street America, and I despise them for it.

Just say no to ChinaMart (AKA: Walmart).

Massey....I totally agree with you...I saw it in our town...the fabric store closed , then the bakery, then 2 hardware stores, 2 lumber yards, 1 western tire and auto, 2 deli's, 2 nursery's, a tire dealer, 2 drug stores, 2 grocery stores and a photo shop along with a boutique and men's clothing shop ~ All closed within 5 yrs. of Walmart opening in our town....I would love to see them taken down. What a shame , how they devastated our downtown and eliminated the personal service we used to receive.

Is that the company that they nearly bankrupt, then bought?? Also heard they did the same with rubbermaid??

We still have greeters up here, was when I was at one a few days back.

Fould a good local dealer for Amsoil, and with the new OE line, my Walmart trips will be few now.
