Sounds like you are on the right track. About that epoxy stuff. My oil cooler sprung a leak and agco tried their usual price gouging wanting over 300 dollars for it. Tried to match it up at napa and oreilys. No luck although similar coolers were like 40 and 50 dollars. Parts house guy convinced to try cleaning it with brake cleaner and try patching it with this epoxy stuff he had. I was skeptical but gave it a try. Turned out to be one of the best 12 dollars i ever spent. That was 2 years ago and patch is still holding.

Sorry to hear about your first day break. I would not buy a used radiator. You got a real deal on a nice machine, for a great price. Now bite the bullet, buy the new one and don't worry why it cost less, maybe dealer wants to get his money out- who cares?
Don't try epoxy on plastic radiator header, it WON'T work. Plastic tank, aluminum core radiators are made of materials that will NOT stick with epoxy. You'd need a plastic welder and the right plastic to make a repair. I know; I owned and ran a foreign auto shop in previous life, and worked with industrial plastics doing solar engineering for the DOE in another earlier life.
Go new, forget shields, drive carefully. Enjoy new tractor. Post pics when able.

I would have to agree that in this application a new radiator may be the best way to go. I would think a used radiator would be hard to come by. Tractor is to new, don't think there would be any in the junk yards yet. He mentioned the epoxy thing and thought i would share my experience. It did adhere to the aluminum, but the guy at the parts house said if i didnt prep it right, didn't mix the epoxy and hardener right, and then let it set up, that it would not work. I will admit i was skeptical. It was not jb weld, it was something that he had and with my experience i believe i will throw rocks at jb weld.

So....
Do you have to start the tractor to remove the loader?

OP is good, but more food for thought:

1) Don't drag racers and multi-engine pulling "tractors" often run dry blocks? Massive horsepower and rpms for 300 feet or 1/4 mile plus. (2+ minutes total run time?)
2) What is standard operating temp on a tractor, compared to the temperature thermostat opens at? If knowing how long it takes engine to get to normal temp, doesn't this give you an idea on how long engine runs without even opening the thermostat (basically the same situation if you clamp the hose)?

Some of them have small radiators. And probably closer to 30 seconds or less run time. If you clamped off the lower hose on the broken radiator and filled it up that would ease concerns about the water pump bearings. I’d guess running like that you’ve probably got 10 minuets at low rpm in modest weather before it over heats.

I tried to patch a leaky radiator in my Silverado with epoxy and then a radiator patch kit. Both failed and I did a proper surface prep job the second time. I ended up replacing it with a new one for about $80.

Like I mentioned, I did order a new radiator. The epoxy comment was only related to the YouTube video, not something I'm going to try with a new tractor.

I'd be happy to post some pics, but this forum is different than most that I'm used to and I'm not seeing the buttons to insert images. Is it the Manage Attachments button? Also, subscriptions are not working for me. I have this thread set to Subscribe-Instant Email and I get nothing.

Join the crowd on figuring out how to run this forum. I'm not a high tech guy, when i need to do something cute and creative like post pics, i get my wife to do it. Hang in there and you'll probably be ahead of me in a couple hours. I just thought i would share my epoxy experience and of course it stirred up a hornets nest. I'm settled in my convictions and really don't worry to much about political correctness or whose apple cart gets upset or who's house of cards gets toppled.

About loading photos... depending on your computer, it could be different ways on how to do it.

This photo, I used the little icon at the top, or if you have the option, press the "Go Advanced" near the bottom.

That row of buttons is what I'm used to seeing on other forums, but I'm not seeing it either on Quick Reply or Go Advanced. I'm using Chrome.

Thanks for all the input. I do have a come-along with me as well as a smaller B7100 Kubota to pull the bigger one around if needed. I'll see what I can do without starting it, but I tend to agree that running it from cold, as in tomorrow morning, for minute or two probably wouldn't hurt it. It's just that it's so new, I don't want to chance anything and wanted to post here in case there's something drastically different about diesels since my experience is mostly with gas engines.

The belt is still on but did spin on the fan pulley for a few seconds before I could get it shut down. I'll definitely replace it and it sounds like I just go ahead and cut it off.

I will check out the other thread on the 3800. Can't believe there's no protection plates under there.

I don't think it ran long enough to overheat and trigger any shutdown mechanisms if there is one. I had it shut down literally 3 or 4 seconds after it happened.

I was also wondering if a radiator shop could fix it but not sure they would be able to get the right end cap with the hose fitting. Worth asking around.

Guess I get to learn about loader removal for the repair. Should be fun.

This mishap was a real let down from the high of finding a 15 hour used tractor with loader, extended warranty, 5' brushhog, fancy $1000 dual blade road grader(never used), and hay forks(never used) for 15,750! Nothing like breaking it on the first day.
I do hope that you learned not to reverse when you drive over saplings or any other stuff when bush hogging. Not many tractors will have under body armor and even those that do, still seem to have some chinks in the armor. I have seen Caterpillars with brush stuck thru the radiator and those have about as good armor as can be made for a vehicle.
I do think that you could add some plating underneath to protect most of the tractor if you are willing to spend the money.

I do not think briefly running your tractor without radiator coolant will hurt it at all. As long as the water pump isn't turning, it wont pump out any remaining coolant in the engine so it wont get hot at all. It shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to drive the tractor onto the trailer and in that time, the block wont even get warm especially in the winter time.

I use Internet Explorer. Here's how I do it.

Click on "Go Advanced" below.
Top row of icons above, far left, box with "blue A", click on that turning off the blue.
Place cursor where you want the pic to appear.
Second row above, fourth from right, square picture box with black dots in corners, click on that. Insert image window will appear on screen.
I use "From Computer", click on "browse". Another window will open allowing you to retrieve a pic from your computer. Click on the pic and then click "open" at the bottom.
Now that pic address appears in the Insert Image window next to browse. Click "upload".
Now your pic will appear in your message wherever you placed your cursor. It will be thumbnail size.
If you want to change the appearance size, double click on the pic.
A window will appear that allows you to choose pic size. I use "full size".
Now your pic will appear where you chose at whatever size you chose. Kinda like this.

That was it, thanks. I'm surprised the default is just a text box editor. Anyway, I'll post some pics when I get a chance. I also turned on email notifications so that should work now.

Good job (on both!) Only thing, since I spend time on slow connections - here's your photo at 800kb vs. 2.955 megs.

Actually, that JPG was already downsized from 6MB but I agree it could be even smaller and still look good online. I'm not used to thinking about that much because most forums automatically downsize uploaded images. I guess that's another difference in this forum and others.
