Upgrading Mobile Home Axles??????

/ Upgrading Mobile Home Axles?????? #21
I have a trailer with mobile home axles that were adapted to fit conventional rims. The tabs were ground off the hub and an adapter plate was mounted that fit regular rims.

I really hope you're kidding...

Nope. Serious as a heart attack.

I didn't do it. It was that way when I bought it, but it's worked great for me.

I am building a 6X14 trailer right now, it will have a #6000 MH axle converted to 6 hole wheels, $32 each hub. I am buying a brake axle with 6 bolt hubs.
A trailer supply company will be able to tell you if your MH axles can be converted.
I have a 16 foot trailer with MH axles and had trouble finding any more used tires in this area. Found new "Towmaster" brand tires for $75 each, on the sidewall they say "trailer use only"......NOT mobile home use, so I think I'm legal anywhere....

Tow Master tire are a quality trailer tire made by Greenball so you are in luck.

Swap it to 8 lug drums if you have the correct brake backing plate mount.

I have a mobile home 18K heavy duty tri-axle trailer with brakes on each axle. It is titled and registered as a legal use trailer in the state and has DOT accepttable tires. I purchased this trailer when I was less informed and the fact it was a good deal. I thought I was just fine but it was not only the MH axles that were a question but the fact the trailer was built on a MH frame. When pulling with my larger truck over 8,000 lbs (heavy truck) I needed a separate policy than my personal vehicle truck and sure enough they would not cover it without a manufacturer plate VIN - number and GVWR rating. The insurance cost would of been only a few dollars but no insurance it no insurance. At the end of the day, the risk of having something go wrong on this traielr and being sued was too high a risk to take when going down the road. It is hard to debate that the original design of the axle and frame was for a temporary mobile home transport. So in the end I purchased a different trailer and the "peace of mind" alone has been worth it. I am willing to take a lot of risks but this was just not one of them.

Hi I didn't read/understand the whole thread. Is there a way to upgrade the (MH) axles? I ask because I have problems with my trailer.
If not, I live in springdale, AR. Is there anyone who knows where I can find some used 6 lug axles and wheels (or if somebody out there has a set for sale please let me know)?

Say what?????

Translation:

Hello everyone. In the thread about mobile home axles, I read some discussion about how they might not be as good as non-MH axles, but I didn't see anybody say if there was a way to upgrade the axles. I'm wondering about this because I have problems with my trailer. I live in Springdale, AR, and I'm looking for some 6-lug axles and wheels. Maybe if somebody local has them for sale, or knows where I can buy some, they could PM me and let me know.
