Did anyone see the Glutten Bowl on Friday. Guys seeing how much and how fast they can eat. Whats next? 300 channels on the Dish and nothing appealing. Where's Green Acres when you need it.

The glutton bowl stands right up there with laying down in a bathtub full of worms/snakes/maggots/rats/and whatever other stuff they can find. Newest one I heard of on the radio today is on MTV I can't remember the name of it, but it is being billed as a "reality sitcom". It is supposedly the family life of Ozzie Ozborn, you get to watch him raise his 2 kids. (Bet THEY watched the glutton bowl.)

I'm waiting for a lot of the old TV series to come out on DVD. MASH, complete 1st Season, is now out with another season due in May. If they do well, maybe some of the others will test the waters. As far as broadcast TV, they haven't even begun to plumb the depths.

TV seems to lower there standards each year, and if it wasn't for show like Gun Smoke,History Channel,Discovery etc.. I would be alot more /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif than Iam.

A big second on that Junkyard Wars! Battlebots is another big one for me.

Don't forget PBS! Our satellite provider broadcasts Detroit PBS. We get all the Michigan outdoor shows, and of course This Old House and the New Yankee Workshop.
I also like Food Network Canada - cooking is one of my hobbies.

It's not unusual for networks to burn up their worst stuff by running it against the Olympics. Fox already had this in the can, (for reasons unknown to me!) and obviously decided to burn it up while everyone was watching a very eventful night of ice skating!
Just a guess.

When I first saw a commercial for this I thought it was a joke. When I realized it was for real, I was disgusted. Pretty soon someone will die on camera from overeating. Maybe they should combine the Toughman competition, Glutton Bowl and the WWF. I keep thinking about what one of the signs of the demise of the Roman Empire was, i.e., unbridled hedonism. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Makes me think of Steven King's Bachman Books. Ever read the Running Man? (the movie - as usual - doesn't do it justice)

I guessing here as I usually come upon them while surfing. I think Junkyard wars is on The Learning Channel at 9:00 Eastern on Wednesday nights. Battlebots is on Comedy but when I can't remember. Both air the same program several times during the week.

Did anyone see the last Junkyard wars....they converted full size vehicles into radio control for the purposes of a demolition derby. Great stuff!

Also saw a fascinating show on Technical colleges creating airborn vehicles to investigate disaster sites. Most amazing thing about it was that they were hands off. Most teams started with a radio control helicopter with cameras, gps and a bunch of other goodies. Once airborn they were turned loose and came upon a disaster. All by themselves they identified people needing rescure, what the hazards were and one even monitored the temperature of the fire without being told. Amazing stuff! Unfortunately, only one team came close to achieving all of the goals and were from Germany. They skunked our US tech teams. They said the vision was that say during a major earthquake you could set 100 or so of them loose without risking any human life until you knew where the problems were and what needed to be done.
