True confessions: my MMM can\'t be used as a dozer?

Live and learn.... I've had a great time this year using my JD4310. Had a trackhoe and dozer on the Land to remove/move cedars. In the process, the Land was scarred. I've used the 4in1 on the 430 loader plus boxblade to remove remaining roots. Well.... I worked on some remaining stumps and roots and in the process bent the faring around the underside of the MMM. When I engaged the midPTO to mow, the sparks flew. After removal, I found that I had bent the housing in front of the center blade -- the blade then took a small chunk of metal as it turned. My gracious neighbor helped me bend out the faring and we will be grinding the burrs.

Okay, I've read enough here to know better, but thought I'd get by without removing the MMM. DON'T DO THIS!!! Even though I don't have a hard surface yet on the Land, I was able to remove the MMM using some plywood. I should have done this prior to the heavy loader/boxblade work.

I confess, I'm a dummy. Hope this helps someone from avoiding the same mistake.

By the way, I haven't said it for many months, but Oh Boy! I really do love my tractor. I'll be posting more about how good I'm feeling about what a great machine it is -- the bad taste is finally getting out of my mouth from the purchase. It's nice to appreciate it as a good choice for my needs.

True confessions: my engine cover dents when firewood clobbers it.
I filled my bucket and tried to lift it too high when all of a sudden one piece nested right on top of my hood.
Now, I have this ever so slight but truly heartbreaking dent on it.
Never, and I mean NEVER over fill your bucket.
Don’t feel bad. You’re not the only one eating humble pie.

True confessions: I think I'm in love with my tractor.

Oh, wait, it's not that kind of confession thread, is it? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: True confessions: my MMM can\'t be used as a dozer?

Last night it was not going to rain and something came up so I did not put the tractor under the roof where I have been parking it until I get the new shed addition built.

Anyway, I go out in the evening for some reason...its relatively cold for this time of year...in the low 50's.

My first thought? " I wonder if the tractor is cold out there???"

Greetings Bill!!

This is so good to hear /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. Welcome back to the forums. I've missed ya and always felt you were part of this TBN family. I now look forward to hearing more of what you've done with the 4310. Thanks for coming back, my friend.

Yes, I've got tractoritis real bad.

Henro got it right. When you start wondering how your tractor is doing while you're away, you've got it bad.

Henro,

This reveals a STRONG connection to your tractor.

Years ago in my dating days, I knew a woman who bought brown clothes because she felt sorry for them being neglected on the display rack. Are you two related?

Re: True confessions: my MMM can\'t be used as a dozer?

I should have known it was going to happen!

Last night I must have done something because the wife gets into it a little , still didn't know what I did and we never got to that point in the "discussion" of the "what" before she quacks out "why don't you just go play on your tractor /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif".

Wow, that was a low blow, I thought I had done absolutely everything to not give her the impression I was enjoying the tractor WORK! First time I think I was without a come backer. Why bring the tractor into it, what did she do??????

Re: True confessions: my MMM can\'t be used as a do

That is one of the reasons I am a rear-mount mower guy ! Easy to work
on disconnect, etc.. ;-) After owning numerous MMM, I now own
a rear-mount JD 261 and don't think I will ever switch back to MMM(s).

Re: True confessions: my MMM can\'t be used as a dozer?

Ah yes, the subtlies of female communication....Having been the recipient of many such dismissives, allow me to translate:

"Why don't you go play on your tractor."

Means "I'm wrong but not admitting it, now leave me alone"

"Why don't you go play on your @!#$%^& tractor."

Means "You're wrong but not admitting it, now leave me alone."

Both may be accompanied by tears, excessive volume, and waving hands, all meant as a distraction. Usually related to the absolute value of the degree of perceived wrongness.

The minor difference in one or two words changes the direction of the flame 180 degrees.

See, us men have an uncanny sense of direction, the direction of blame and wrongness is important. However, for those who are directionally challenged, the direction means nothing, it's only the amplitude that counts.

Most of these previously undechipherable discussions can be brought into focus if we ignore directional parameters.

Now let's just keep this a secret, if they know we've broken the code, we're in deep trouble.

I wonder - did the store owners see her coming or did they phone for her?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ROTFL

Being colour perception challenged (the politically correct term I believe) and rarely buying clothes (thank you CFO) I can at least resist that temptation.

Re: True confessions: my MMM can\'t be used as a dozer?

Remember, Bill, I have a GREEN tractor!! I love it, but I'd have cardiac arrest if JD handled anything closely related to my stupidity! Nice joke, 'er thought, though.

Re: True confessions: my MMM can\'t be used as a dozer?

Well Blurrybill, the MMM can't be used as a tree trimmer, either...

I bungee corded up the MMM chute guard to disperse the grass clippings in my yard instead of piling them up as a windrow as I mowed. All went well... until... the mower swivel caster rode up on a root... as it should. Unfortunately the guard came in contact with a knobby on the rear wheel of my Kubota B7500 and bent the $hit out of it. With the corrugations (factory installed /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) in the metal, a large rubber mallet would barely reshape the guard. Now I have a reminder of what NOT to do.

We can be creative, can't we, Robert? Nice to know I'm not the only one with innovative notions of how to use equipment!

I didn't realize that the husband being right was an option! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'm sure I read this in the rules somewhere! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I’ve bent the discharge chute on my B9200 a few times. I’m not familiar with your mower but I use two pieces of wood ( 2X4 or 1X2) clamped together with the metal of the chute sandwiched in between. The idea here is leverage, by having the metal sandwiched between the wood you can really pry on the bent section. I’ve had to move the boards around to get a good angle on the bend and I’ve had to bend a little here a little there but eventually you can bend the chute back into shape. Again I don’t know how yours bent but this has saved me a few times.

Sounds like something a man who did his land with horses would think. I guess we still appreciate the help the horse power that helps us.
