Tree hogging with a CUT

I run a 5' Brown tree cutter w/ my 4720 Hydro and often go thru 8" pine or sweet gum trees. Have a FOPS and forestry cage to avoid damage to my soft head. My 5' model weighs in at 1600 lbs and is 20 yrs old. I drive over 4" trees thanks to my belly pan. The folding deck model is the way to go if you can afford the 9 K investment.

We have what I think is a Brown Tree Cutter at our camp. It has 4 blades and will cut ANYTHING up to about 12". It is bad for cutting a sweet gum thicket. Brown Mfg Corp - 2000 series Folding Deck Tree Cutter

I've seen em at auction in person.pics don't do em justice. They look like super- bad-to-the-bone/Tractor breaker to me? I would guess a malfunction/lock-up on the clutches(misplaced/accident grease in the wrong place) would be a bad day even for a heathty tractor? thanks for the Info :)

I have also found out from experience it is a very good idea to have some protection from the flying debris, especially if you do not have a cab.

Stiff wire mesh or plexi attached to your ROPS can deflect flying chunks of wood and save your backside - even though a full cage would be ideal

Eye and head protection is also recommended if "chopping" in areas where larger trees exist, as material thrown from the hog can easily deflect off of these trees right back into the operator from many different angles.

Remembered to take some pictures of areas I'd bush hogged in the forest - you can see the sort of thing I'm cutting, and how the ground looks after

Is that the Al Gore that invented trees?

You know, its just so unfair that this always gets taken out of context. Al Gore never said he invented trees. What he said was that he helped pass legislation that made it possible for God to make the trees.

OK, was this the Al Gore who wrote the famous poem while serving in the armed forces...

I think that I shall never see a tree
quite so lovely, oh so lovely as ME!

This would have been after he invented water and before he invented the internet.

...and this just in... A late breaking flash announcement! Behavioral scientists have determined the reason Al Gore crossed the road. He wanted to see where the chicken went.

Various comments and relevant statements were issued by and political types.

HILLARY CLINTON:
When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure -- right from Day One! -- that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn't about me.......

BARACK OBAMA:
The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a CHANGE! The chicken wanted CHANGE!

COLIN POWELL:
Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road...

ANDERSON COOPER - CNN:
We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

JOHN KERRY:
Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.

BILL CLINTON:
I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken?

AL GORE:
I invented the chicken!
