anyone have any good ideas or bright inovations for locking a trailer up at home? seems like anything that locks in the trailer hitch can be bypassed with a short link of chain and a truck that sits up high.
i was thinking of an anchor in my concrete pad that the trailer would be chained to. i know the lock is the week link but at least it might take them a little longer than backing up wraping a chain around it and haulin buns.

thanks

something similar would be a lock/chain that runs thru the wheel holes and is attached around the axle.. It keeps the wheels from turning..

this isnt exactly what I have seen before, but the same concept..

I had that set-up for my trailer and it worked great. The only problem I had was the one day I hooked up the trailer and forgot to remove it...I was reminded very quickly that I wasn't going anywhere!

Take a look at these Floor Anchor Systems
:D If these wont slow em down try hookin the trailer to a live power source!

I put a chain and padlock through two wheels on one side. I also have a padlock that goes in the latch hole on the trailer hitch. They also make a lock that fits up inside where the ball goes and locks onto the lip. Plus I usually block them in with another vehicle at times. Most places that sell trailers, especially campers, sell security locks.

Take your tires off and put it on jack stands. :D

I use the lock type that has a ball and hoop that locks around and inside the ball socket. It's yellow and can be defeated by running a chain through the tongue as you describe. Really though, the trailer is a relatively inexpensive piece of equipment compared to your pickup or tractor.

i guess i should elaborate on why i am working on this idea. sometimes i dont get a job done in one day so i leave my tractor on the trailer overnight. my yard keeps me from putting it anywhere but on the boat/rv pad. behind this pad is a 3 foot drop off so i dont have to worry about someone backing it off. at night i park in front of it so that would stop that but every once in awhile i have to leave for a couple hours unexpectantly and then im worried. the point is to slow them down long enough for the dogs to start barking and one of my neighbors to start shooting, lol. i have neighbors on both sides who love guns. when i had a boat i would chain the tires together (all 4 with one chain) and it was a pain. i think in a pinch i will chain one side together duno why i didnt think about that and i will set an anchor of some kind.
thanks guys

Buy a cordless impact wrench. Set a block under the trailer frame. Take wheel(s) off when you leave it at night. If you have a lighter weight trailer, should only be 5 lugnuts. You can rattle them off in 2-3 minutes. Lock the wheel & impact wrench in your truck/shed/garage, etc.

Or, buy a doberman, shepherd, rotty, etc. and leave it out back.
