Trailer hub covers

I want to do something to make my trailer wheels look better. What do you guys do? I found these covers.QuickTrim® Chrome Trailer Hub Cover, 6 on 5-1/2" #QT655CHN Right now they look like the best bang for the buck.

In the past I did chrome lug nuts and chrome center caps but they rust up pretty quick.

Junk. I have installed about 12 sets of four and each and every one has lost multiple covers. We even tried putting zip ties on the tabs that go over the lug nuts to snug them up but it did not work.

Best thing you can do is get everything cleaned up and painted with the wheels off then buy nice full lug nuts in stainless.

Thanks for the reply Chris. I painted the wheels yesterday Before I had 1 white wheel and 3 silver. Now I have 4 silver. I am going to do the wheels on my little trailer next.

I'll look into some stainless wheel nuts and center caps. I was also thinking may be able to find some caps of some other kind of wheel for my trailer.

I've had no problem at all with these on my daily hauling trailer or my wife's horse trailer.

I've got those covers on our camper and stock trailer. Haven't had any problems with either of them. The stock trailer is a 2003 and the camper a 2009. The only thing is the finish on the stock trailer ones are starting to pit a bit. One of these days I need to paint the wheels and replace them on it....of course, I also need to paint the whole trailer.

I noticed the Phoenix Quick trim covers seem to be popular on horse trailers. I wonder if the falling off issue has to do with the kind of wheel nuts on the trailer or theft? I was thinking if I got a set and the chrome started going away I could paint them. The paint I used to do the wheels can be used on plastic. I might just paint the hubs and see what that looks like for now.

I have those on my flatbed gooseneck and I lost the two on the rear axle. I had custom center cap stickers made with my name on them so if anyone finds them, let me know

I put covers over my trailers lug nuts. Wifey made the centers for them and keeps everything looking nice and clean. I bought mine at a local RV place for $15. each.

Seems like I have seen chrome hub covers that had a lip on them that would go behind the rim. I guess the rim would have to be specially made for that though.

The center caps would have to have the same input diameter less the retaining lip..Problem with those are if you have ez-lubes or bearing buddies, you'd have to take the wheel off to grease..No big deal I guess.

I'm sure Summit sells something that would work. They don't cover the lugs though.

I have them too, on the car hauler and the camper..My jury's still out too. Bought one of those plunger type bearing packers as insurance...now to find out where I can buy replacement seals when I re-pack.

IF you over grease the easy lube axle all the grease will get on your brakes. I think you are best to do it the old way. You can probably get seals from etrailer or ebay.

That's what concerns me..there's really no way to know if the seal failed until the brakes are already greased...One more piece of engineering needs added to give that warning...I certainly don't have that solution.

I did grease my car trailer ez-lubes and they did seem to act as they are supposed to (it's almost new). I took all of the assemblies apart after greasing to see what happened. Saw the old grease squeezing out of the inner bearing. I never added enough grease to make it even close to the outer bearing though. That's where the concern lies.

The bearings probably don't need greased that often anyway. Look how long a car can go. With ez-lubes you are relying on the seal to hold under the pressure of the grease gun. They don't do a good job at greasing the inner bearing. I think they still want you to repack the bearings once in a while even though you have ez lubes.

Or some kind of restriction that would push against the seals.
