Decided to keep my DK 40 rather than buy a newer higher hp tractor. Tier 4 pricing scared me to death. Anyway. Looking for trailer suggestions for my dk 40se. I have a loader and loaded tires with chain. Is an 18' car trailer heavy enough. It is a 3.5 ton trailer?

I'm trying to buy used and have it serve double duty to haul the occasional building supplies and pallets of pellets for my folks

Thanks

I'd say no to a 3.5T (7000 lb) trailer. Say the trailer weighs 2K. That puts the trailer load capacity of a 7K trailer at 5K.

Your DK40SE weighs 3942 (with cab would be more), loader is another 1284, Loaded tires and chains etc about 1200. That puts your weight at about 6426 lbs. I'd say you need a 5 Ton (10K) trailer and at least 20' if you ever need to haul implements with your tractor.
I recently sold my 20' 7K trailer for the same reason. I bought a new tractor that weighs about what yours does. Too much for a 7K trailer. I could have got away with a 10-12K trailer but went with a 22' 14K PJ tilt bed.

We have a DK45 with FEL. We chose a trailer with 5k axles. It's 18 foot so if we haul the brush hog, it hangs off the back, but nothing crazy. Make sure whatever you get has brakes.

As others have said 7 k is to light 10 k min. 20 to 22 foot should be about right. I'm in near the same situation as u I'm still shopping.

I would say go extra and get a 20ft.Nice to have the extra 2ft. if you a implement on the rear.I went with a 20ft.PJ trailer with 7,000 lbs axles.I also burn wood pellets nice to get 4 skids (8,000 lbs)in one load verses two trips.

Like the others said you'll need a 5 ton/10,000# minimum. My tractor showed up with front snow blade andblower mounted and it took up every inch of a 20' trailer, with the blade on top of the front rub bar. I have a guy building me a 26' 7 ton so I can handle trailer and anything else.

I was in the same situation although I kept my CK 30 TLB and added a DK45. I was using a 7000lb carhauler but went to an Anderson 20 foot 14k goosneck. The GN gives me extra space when using multiple implements

As others said, 7k is too light.

As to length, measure your longest setup. My smaller tractor+fel+6' bushhog is longer than 20'. An no way would it go on an 18' and have good weight distribution.

What is your tow vehicle?

I tow with a 3/4 ton truck, have owned more trailers of all types over the last 30 years than I can remember, but this is the best one, got it in 2006.

I use my 7k hauler for my DK40SE, but I only take my brush hog along for the ride. I've been looking for a longer, heavier duty trailer so that I can tow my tractor with the loader and hoe, but then I'd have to upgrade my pickup as well...

I have a dk50se hydro with loader and a woods 90x backhoe, haven't loaded the tires yet. I bought a 7 ton 22 foot PJ trailer, is the equipment hauler type with fenders not the higher flat deck, bumper pull hitch 2 5/16" ball. Pull it with a f150 right now, handles it ok if loaded properly

I have a 20' and I wish I had purchased a longer trailer so I could carry attachments as well as the tractor.

Looks like you need a bigger truck instead of trailer.
